The winning streak is over.
The Jay County High School gymnastics team suffered its first dual-meet defeat in more than three years.
Despite scoring above the 100-point mark for the second time this season and four gymnasts turning in career-best scores, the Patriots lost to Huntington North on Tuesday, 102.5-100.975.
The Patriots’ last loss was Jan. 28, 2012.
Sophomore Lizzy Schoenlein turned in career-high scores on the uneven bars (9.05) and floor exercise (9.525) to win both events. Her score on the floor left her 0.175 points away from the school record.
She also took first in the vault (8.9) and finished third on the beam (7.8) to win the all-around competition with a 35.275.
Senior Malarie Houck finished second in both the floor and bars. She set a new career-high with an 8.4 on bars, and turned in an even 9.0 on floor.
Maddie Strausburg and Jocelyn Huey both turned in career-highs as well. Strausburg set new marks on bars (8.2), and Huey had career bests on the bars (8.15) and floor (8.475).
In junior varsity action, Sydnee Lee won vault with an 8.825, a new career-best, and also took first on floor with a 7.725. Erica Swingley was first on beam (6.0) and finished second on floor behind Lee.

Tribe tops Celina
CELINA, Ohio — The Fort Recovery girls basketball team never trailed in a 47-35 road win against the Celina Bulldogs on Tuesday.
The Tribe (15-6) had a 14-5 lead after the first quarter. Despite managing only seven points in the second, the Indians had a 21-17 lead at the break.
Fort Recovery got back on track in the second half, scoring 11 and 15 points respectively in each of the final two quarters for the win.
Tori Lennartz shared the game-high, pouring in 18 points to pace the Indians. She also had five rebounds, three assists and one block.
Kendra Siefring chipped in with 10 points and was one rebound away from a double-double as she hauled in a game-high nine boards.
The FRHS junior varsity team also won, 27-19.
Grace Gehle had 13 points for the Indians, and Sydney Dues added five.

Jay sweeps Jets
MONROE — The Jay County middle school boys and girls swim teams both defeated Adams Central on Tuesday.
The girls beat the Jets 99-81, and the boys won 67-49.
Eliza Bader, Ashlyn Dow and Lilli Clemmons all won two events apiece for the girls. Bader took first in the 200- and 400-yard freestyle races. Dow won the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke, and Clemmons earned wins in both the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke.
Kaitlyn Hicks (100 individual medley) and Kaitlyn Dow (50 butterfly) also won events for Jay County.
Leah Hummel, Hannah James, Ashlyn Dow and Bader teamed up to win the 200 medley relay.
Tayler Smeltzer was the lone dual winner for the boys, placing first in both the 200 freestyle and 50 butterfly. He then joined Matthew Minnich, Sammy Crump and Ben Strausburg to win the 200 freestyle relay.

Chief boys win
HARTFORD CITY — East Jay’s sixth grade boys basketball teams ended their seasons with victories against the Blackford Bruins on Tuesday.
The A team edged the Bruins 29-26, and the B squad rolled to a 22-9 victory.
Griffin Mann and Landon Grimes scored 11 and 10 points respectively to lead the Chiefs’ A team. Bailey Cox chipped in with four points and Nicholas Fields added two.
Logan Ballard scored six points to pace the East Jay B team. Blake Caldwell, John Candelaria and Mitchel Trobridge all tallied four points. Brian Zhang and Andrew Brinkerhoff scored two points apiece.
The A team finished with a record of 3-7, and the B team was 2-6.

Eagles top Warriors
GASTON — The West Jay Middle School wrestling team defeated the Wes-Del Warriors on Tuesday, 24-6.
Zakk Atkins (100-pound weight class), Rob Garringer (110), Andrew Toney (145) and Nathaniel Lykins (155) all pinned their opponents in their respective weight classes. Sean Ashley (105) took the only loss for West Jay.
Johnathan Pierce, Toney and Lykins all won in reserve action..
