Fiber Fest set for March
Taking Note
The Jay County Visitor and Tourism Bureau’s annual Fiber Fest and Spin-In is coming to the Jay County Fairgrounds again for its 12th year. The event is set for Friday and Saturday, March 13 and 14 in the 4-H building.
There will be fiber artists, a petting zoo, and numerous vendors available throughout the event.
Although it’s not open to the public, classes will be held Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. Classes for the public will then be available Friday and Saturday. Registration is required for those classes and may be made by contacting Gyneth Augsburger at (260) 726-3366 or http://www.visitjaycunty.com/fiberfest.
Friday’s activities begin at 10 a.m. and continue until 7 p.m. when fiber artist, Kate Larson, will be presenting a program, Leicester Love and Other Stories. Activities begin at 9 a.m. Saturday and continue until 4 p.m. There is a $3 admission charge each day.
During the two-day event there will also be classes, hands-on activities and demonstrations, sheep shearing, storytelling, a Border Collie demonstration as well as a lamb and a meat goat judging contest. Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will have a chance to earn a fun patch as well.
Homemade food will also be available for purchase throughout the event.

College Goal Sunday
Help in filing FAFSA funding will be offered Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at John Jay Center for Learning in Portland during College Goal Sunday. There will be free help completing the application which is needed to receive federal and state assistance for the 2015-16 school year. The national deadline to file is March 10. For a list of materials needed to complete the test or for more information call (260) 729-5525.
Annual meeting
The Jay County Extension Advisory Council’s annual meeting is set for Tuesday, March 3, at 6:30 p.m. at the 4-H building at the Jay County Fairgrounds.
A complimentary meal will be served, followed by a report from the extension staff and the featured speaker, Dr. Todd Applegate, professor of animal sciences and extension poultry specialist from Purdue.
Reservations should be made by calling the extension office at (260) 726-4707 by Monday or by email at ddcolema@purdue, edu.
Anyone needing special accommodations or with special dietary concerns, contact Larry Temple at the extension office.

Elijah Kahlig, Fort Recovery, and Morgan Link, Portland, were recently named to the dean’s list for the fall 2014 semester at The University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio.
