Slip and slide
Slick roadways contributed to two traffic accidents in Portland Wednesday.
About 11:40 a.m., a 2012 Nissan Rogue driven by Beth A. Fouch, 38, Honeysuckle Lane, Portland, slid when attempting to stop on North Meridian Street near Industrial Drive, striking a 2012 Chevrolet van driven by Alexander J. Hoying, 28, Anna, Ohio.
Hoying told Portland police he was preparing to turn into the parking lot at Coca-Cola Refreshments when the van, registered to Wells Brothers Inc., Anna, Ohio, was struck.
Damage was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
About 3:35 p.m., a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Christian J. Current, 16, 403 W. 12th St., Portland, was southbound in the 900 block of South Bridge Street when the driver lost control because of the slick conditions and struck a parked 2004 Chrysler.
The Chrysler was registered to Juan Marentes, 950 S. Bridge St., Portland.
Damage was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
Strikes deer
An SUV driven by a Hartford City man struck a deer about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday on Indiana 1 near county road 150 South.
Chris M. Baker, 57, told the Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was southbound in his 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe when the deer ran into the front passenger side of his vehicle.
Damage was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
Backing accident
A car driven by a Portland man backed into a parked vehicle in the Community and Family Services parking lot, 521. S. Wayne St., Portland, shortly before 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Jerald D. Smitley Jr., 46, 1003 W. Water St., told Portland police he thought he had enough room while backing up his 1987 Oldsmobile. His car struck a parked 2001 Chevrolet Blazer registered to Duane E. McKibben, 815 N. Meridian St., Portland.
Damage was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
