Science Fair winners named at Pennville
Taking Note
Pennville Elementary recently named its Science Fair class champions.
Annah Helm, first grade, won for “Expansion of Frozen Liquids,” She is the granddaughter of Debora McCowan.
Hannah Armstrong, second grade, won for “Why Doesn’t the Ocean Freeze?” She is the daughter of Michael and Lindsey Armstrong.
Makinsey Murphy, third grade, won for “Strawberry DNA.” She is the daughter of Jason and Cindy Murphy.
Courtney Benter, fourth grade, won for “Point the Ponies: How Horses Keep Warm In the Wind.” She is the daughter of Scott and Brenda Benter.
Co-champions were Hallie Saxman, fifth grade, for “How Well Do Cleaners Work?” and Alaina Weaver, fifth grade, for “Milk Mountains.” Saxman is the daughter of Alicia Corwin and Justin Saxman and Weaver is the son of Phillip and Amy Weaver.
Regional qualifiers in third grade were Hunter Bouse, the son of Greg and Heidi Bouse, for “Exceptional Egg,” Murphy and Jordan Weaver, the son of Phillip and Amy Weaver, for “Cold Feet.”
In fourth grade were Benter, Madison Springer, the daughter of Nathan and Wendy Springer, for “Homopolar Motor,” and Alizabeth Stotler, the daughter of Melissa Stotler and Chad Stotler, for “Iron Our Your Cereal.”
In fifth grade were Landin Haggard, the son of Malisa Davis and Jason Haggard, for “Maple Candies,” Saxman and Weaver.
Regional qualifiers advanced to the East Central Indiana Regional Science Fair at Ball State University Saturday.
There were also two winners of the Isaac Knapp District Dental Society Award, sponsored by Dunn Family Dental Care in Portland.
McKenna Vore, fifth grade, for “Not So Bright Smile.” She is the daughter of Joe and Amy Vore.
Karyssa Denney, first grade, for “Brush Better!” She is the daughter of Kari Brotherton Kyle Denney.
