Motherson Sumi growing again
Business Roundup
Motherson Sumi Systems, parent company of MSSL Wiring (formerly Alphabet) of Portland, is growing again.
The New Delhi-based automotive parts maker is acquiring Germany’s Scherer and Trier in a deal valued at about 36 million Euros.
The deal is expected to help the company offer a diverse selection of polymer products. Scherer and Trier has two manufacturing facilities, one in Germany and one in Mexico.
Subject to regulatory approval, the acquisition is expected to be completed this month.
In addition to the wiring harnesses produced in Jay County, Motherson Sumi has a range of products that include rearview mirrors molded plastic parts for automotive interiors and exteriors. The company is led by the Sehgal family and is India’s largest auto parts conglomerate, with annual revenues of about $6.1 billion.
Wrong job title
Last week’s Business Roundup incorrectly gave Jeanne Houchins a promotion.
Though Houchins is the new president of the Jay County Chamber of Commerce, she is not president of Advanced Seal Technology of Bryant.
She is an administrative assistant with that company and is affiliated with Progressive Office Products of Portland. She also serves on Jay County Council.
Donate $1.1 million
Circle K Stores of the Midwest and Great Lakes region have helped raise more than $1.1 million for the March of Dimes of Indiana.
The funds were raised during the convenience store chain’s annual “Pick-A-Pumpkin” campaign in October. The company, which has two stores in Portland, has conducted the October campaign for the last 19 years.
Vote delayed
Family Dollar is delaying a shareholder vote on a proposed buyout by Dollar Tree until Jan. 22.
The company, which has a number of stores in the area, agreed this summer to be acquired by Dollar Tree for $8.5 billion or $74.50 per share.
A $9.1 billion offer from Dollar General was rejected, with the company citing anti-trust concerns.
Restaurant re-born
The Highline Restaurant in Geneva has changed hands following an auction and is now the Limberlost Diner.
The new owners are Scott and Tammy Hodle, who are both from Adams County.
The couple has had experience working for the Cracker Barrel, Cornflower, and Applewood restaurant chains.
