Jay Co. defeats Bluffton

BLUFFTON — Jay County High School’s wrestling team only lost three matches Tuesday in a 53-14 victory against Bluffton.
In the 170-pound weight division, Levi Hummel pinned Brian Hubble in just 61 seconds. Jon Blankenship (285) also earned a pin in the first period, and Andy Kohler (182) and Colton Compton (126) both pinned their opponents in the second period.
Tyler Leonhard (152) and Tristan Atkins (120) both won by major decision, and Kaimen Sanders (113), Dallas Dudelston (132) and Ivan Hemmelgarn (125) also earned victories.
Simon Brumfield (220) and Seth Fugiett (106) each won by forfeit.
Jay County moved to 8-3 on the season and 4-2 in the Allen County Athletic Conference.

Girls suffer first loss
YORKTOWN — Despite winning more than half of the events Tuesday, Jay County’s girls swim team suffered its first loss in more than two years.
The host Yorktown Tigers edged the Patriots 97-89. Jay County’s boys won, 103.5-71.5.
Sophie Bader, Anne Vormohr and Alex Bader all won individual events for the Patriots. Sophie Bader won the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 butterfly, Vormohr took first in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke and Alex Bader was victorious in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke.
The girls also won the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.
Sok Vormohr was the only dual winner for the JCHS boys, placing first in the 500 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke.
Christian Phillips (diving), Cody White (100 butterfly) and Travis Barton (100 freestyle) also earned victories for Jay County.
White, Barton and Vormohr joined Conner Daniels to win the 200 freestyle relay.

Tribe ends skid
ARCANUM, Ohio — The losing streak is no more.

Fort Recovery’s boys basketball team raced out to an 11-point lead in the opening quarter and went nearly point-for-point with the Arcanum Trojans the rest of the way in a 61-54 victory Tuesday.
The win snaps a stretch of five straight losses for the Indians (3-8).
Fort Recovery took advantage of a poor shooting performance by the Trojans in the first half, and shot nearly 70 percent (13-of-19) as it took a 31-20 lead into the break.
Micaiah Cox led the Indians with 15 points, and Chase Bruns and Wes Wenning each chipped in with 11 points.
Fort Recovery’s JV team also won, 55-31. Tanner Koch had 16 points and Kyle Knapke followed with nine.

WJMS boys fall
DUNKIRK — The West Jay Middle School sixth grade boys basketball teams both lost to Muncie Southside on Tuesday.
The A team lost 50-2, and the B team fell 9-8.
For the B team, Lane Chapman, Franklin Crump and Hunter Miller each had two points.
Riley Foster scored the only two points for the A team in the lopsided loss.

Tribe 8th wins
FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery Middle School’s eighth grade girls basketball team had a narrow lead at halftime, but pulled away after the break for a 26-18 victory against the Parkway Panthers.
The Tribe seventh graders lost, 17-10.
Faith Kahlig led the FRMS eighth graders with 10 points, six of which came in the fourth quarter. Brooke Gaerke followed with six points, and Aleigha Jenkins added four points. Madi Rammel, Hannah Knapke and Elise Gehle had two points apiece.
For the Tribe seventh graders, Chloe Showalter led the way with seven points. Brooke Kahlig tallied two points, and Harlie Dues added one.
