Possession sentence
An Ohio woman was recently sentenced in Jay Superior Court.
Maureen Rivers, 26, Eaton, pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance, a Class D felony, and was sentenced Tuesday to 18 months in Jay County Jail, with all but 30 days suspended. As part of a plea agreement, a count of theft was dismissed. She was given eight days credit for four days served and will begin serving her sentence Wednesday and continuing intermittently over the next 10 consecutive weeks. She was assessed court costs of $168 and ordered to pay a drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee of $200. She was placed on formal probation for 17 months.
Molesting sentence
A Portland man was recently sentenced in Jay Circuit Court.
Matthew Nichols, 23, pleaded guilty to child molesting, a Class B felony, and was sentenced Jan. 8 to 10 years in Indiana Department of Correction, with four years suspended. As part of a plea agreement, a count of child molesting, a Class A felony, and two counts of child molesting, both Class C felonies, were dismissed. He will serve 60 days in Jay County Jail, with the remaining sentence on electronically monitored home detention. He was given four days credit for two days served and assessed court costs of $168. He was ordered to pay a $500 sexual assault victim’s assistance fee and placed on formal probation for four years.
Probation violation
A Muncie woman was recently found in violation of her probation in Jay Circuit Court.
Ashley Bright, 27, Muncie, was sentenced Jan. 8 to three months of her previously suspended two-year sentence in a February 2013 case of theft, a Class D felony, in Jay County Jail. She was given credit from her date of arrest on Dec. 6.
The violation stems from missed probation appointments in both August and September.
