Big second quarter lifts Tribe to victory

FORT RECOVERY — A big second quarter helped the Fort Recovery High School girls basketball team defeat the Riverdale Falcons on Saturday, 60-44.
The Indians (8-3) had a 12-9 lead after the first eight minutes, and then put up 19 points in the second.
Fort Recovery took advantage of poor shooting by Riverdale (26.1 percent) in the opening half, while the Indians hit for 65 percent from the field.
FRHS junior Kendra Siefring led all players with 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Tori Lennartz chipped in with 14 points, and Jocelyn Kaiser added 11 to go with her game-high nine rebounds.
Taylor Farmer led Riverdale with 14 points.
The Indians’ junior varsity team also beat the Falcons, 47-30. Sydney Dues notched her first double-double of the season, dropping 15 points and grabbing 16 rebounds. Kiah Wendel added 10 points.

Fort boys fall in OT
FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s boys hoops team saw its 13-point fourth-quarter lead vanish, then its offense went stagnant in extra time as the Indians lost 52-49 in overtime to the Franklin Monroe Jets.
The Tribe (3-9) shot just 2-for-6 from the field and missed both of its free throws in overtime as the Jets made a pair of field goals and went 4-of-10 from the line to cap their comeback win.
Fort Recovery sophomore Micaiah Cox led all players with 23 points, and Caleb Martin added 10 points. Darien Sheffer added six points off the bench, and Brandon “Speedy” Schoen had four points to go with his game-high six assists.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team won, 49-32. Jason Roessner led the Tribe with 13 points.

SA boys rally
MONROEVILLE — The South Adams boys basketball team used a big fourth quarter to beat the host Heritage Patriots 54-53 in the Allen County Athletic Conference tournament consolation game on Saturday.
After trailing 45-36 heading into the final frame, the Starfires (4-6) scored 18 points in the final eight minutes while holding the Patriots to just eight.
Heritage (5-5) took a 33-28 lead into the break thanks to a 21-point effort in the second quarter before extending its lead to nine after three quarters.
Cole Myers and Derek Wanner led South Adams with 15 and 14 points respectively. Conner Sealscott added nine points and eight rebounds for the Stars, who lost its previous two games to Leo by a combined score of 190-150.

Stars top Woodlan
MONROEVILLE — A stellar first quarter on Saturday helped the South Adams girls basketball team to a 49-30 win against the Woodlan Warriors in the consolation game of the ACAC tournament at Heritage.
The Starfires (9-7) held the Warriors (5-10) to just three points in the opening quarter, and led 24-14 at halftime.
The win snapped an 18-game losing streak against the Warriors.
Cindy In’t Groen led all scorers with 18 points and Lexi Dellinger added 10 as all 11 Starfires saw time on the court.
Sydney Willis chipped in with eight points, and Sharon Balsiger added six.
