Jay Co. bowlers finish second

HUNTINGTON — The Jay County High School girls bowling team finished its season with a 15-5 match play victory over Bellmont on Saturday at Oak Lanes in Huntington.
Jay County won the first game 752-673, and then held off the Squaws in the second, 800-771.
With the victory, Jay County finished its season in the Hoosier Conference with a 6-6 record and tied for second with the Bluffton Tigers. Jay County then beat the Tigers 326-308 in a roll-off to take sole possession of second place.
Junior Kyra Braun, who qualified for the regional competition after finishing fourth in the sectional on Wednesday at The Brown Bowl in Portland, took home the season single high game medal with her score of 243 Saturday against Bellmont.
Also competing for Jay County were Irene Braun, Heather Lugar, Blaize Miller, Carla Dick, Hope Lugar and Lilly Rogers.
The Hoosier Conference is a five-team conference with teams from Huntington North, Bellmont, Bluffton, South Adams and Jay County.
Fort freshmen fall
FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery High School’s boys and girls freshman basketball teams hosted the Versailles Tigers on Monday and came away with losses.
The Tribe boys lost 31-27, and the girls were at the wrong end of a 40-16 score.
Cade Wendel paced the boys with nine points, and Trevor Vaughn added six. Even Post tallied five points, with Ethan Schoen, Eddie Siefring and Ryan Braun having two points apiece.
For the Tribe girls, Kiah Wendel led the way with eight points. Bridget Pottkotter, Clair Metzger, Lydia Schmitz and Sydney Dues each added two points.
Warriors top Eagles
DUNKIRK — West Jay Middle School’s seventh and eighth grade girls basketball teams both lost to the Selma Warriors on Monday.
The eighth grade Eagles fell 33-26, and the seventh graders were defeated 29-13.
Kensey Litton led the WJMS eighth graders with 10 points, Rhegan Shimp tallied eight points and Randi Ferguson chipped in with six points. Kendall Garringer and Calli Crosby both had two points, and Garringer grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.
Asilyn Davis paced the seventh graders with seven points in the losing effort. Hallie Fields totaled four and Alison Jobe added two.
The eighth graders fall to 4-6 on the season, and the seventh graders drop to 1-9.
Knapke leads in loss
FORT RECOVERY — Grant Knapke poured in 21 points on Monday in the Fort Recovery seventh grade boys basketball team’s loss to Russia, 39-34.
The eighth grade Indians also lost, 39-28.
Owen Schoen and Ian Homan scored five and four points respectively to follow Knapke’s season-high point total. Jared Timmerman and Eli Keller both added two points.
Payton Jutte netted 13 points for the Tribe eighth graders in their defeat. Derrick Siefring scored five points, and Mason Will and Clayton Pearson each had four points. Noah Lennartz added two points for the Indians.
