KOKOMO — For the second straight meet the Patriots weren’t able to surpass the 100-point threshold.
But they still came away with a second-place finish.
The Jay County High School gymnastics team scored 97.35 points on Saturday to place second at the Northwestern Gymnastics Invitational.
Sixth-ranked Logansport earned the top spot with a score of 102.55, and Western placed third with 94.925.
Sophomore Lizzy Schoenlein turned in a career-high 9.4 on the floor exercise for the Patriots’ only individual victory. Schoenlein was also second on the balance beam (8.4), second on the uneven bars (8.125) and eighth on the vault (8.45). In the all-around competition, she was runner up with a score of 34.375.
Malarie Houck picked up a trio of top-eight finishes. She was sixth on the vault (8.625), seventh on the beam (7.825) and eighth in all-around (31.65).
Maddie Strausburg also earned a top eight finish on the bars with her score of 7.375. She was seventh.

Stars hang on
WOODBURN — For the second consecutive season, the South Adams girls basketball team has reached the double-digit win plateau.
The Starfires held off the host Woodlan Warriors in the second half on Saturday for a 61-56 victory. It marked the 10th victory of the season for SAHS (10-8, 3-3 Allen County Athletic Conference), which won 13 games last year to end a streak of 12 straight years with wins in the single digits.
Mackenzie Jennings led all players with 17 points, including three 3-pointers.
Cindy In’t Groen added 13 points, and Lexi Dellinger tallied 11. Sydney Willis followed with 10 points to give the Stars four players in double figures.
Rain Hinton led the Warriors (5-11, 2-3 ACAC) with 14 points, and Kendra Graber added 12.
The South Adams junior varsity team also won, 31-26.

Tribe routs Trojans
TROY, Ohio — The Trojans missed their first 18 shots of the contest on Saturday.
Fort Recovery built a lead it wouldn’t give up.
The Indians girls basketball team held the Troy Trojans scoreless through the first half and nearly 22 minutes without a field goal in a 44-19 rout of the host Trojans.
Fort Recovery (10-4) had an 18-0 lead after the first half, and the Trojans weren’t able to hit the scoreboard until the 6:43 mark of the third period. Troy scored its first six points of the game on free throws, and didn’t make its first field goal until there was 2:09 remaining in the frame.
Tori Lennartz of Fort Recovery led all players with 13 points, and Cassidy Rammel tallied 12. They combined to go 7-of-12 from behind the 3-point line.
Kendra Siefring added seven points, and Carley Stone, Jocelyn Kaiser and Grace Thien all tallied four points.
The FRHS junior varsity team lost to the Trojans, 20-19. Devin Post had a game-high seven points, and Kiah Wendel and Sydney Dues each totaled six.

EJ 8th wins invite
The East Jay Middle School eighth grade girls basketball team won its invitational on Saturday with victories over Selma and Monroe Central.
The Chiefs defeated Selma 35-12 in the opening game, then beat Monroe Central 40-29 in the championship.
Kendra Muhlenkamp and Gwen Omstead each totaled 15 points in the tournament, with Hanna Dillon adding seven and Kailee Denney scoring 10. Sammie Twigg and Klarisa Hemmelgarn tallied eight points apiece.
The seventh grade Chiefs dropped both games of its tournament. They lost to Selma 38-10 in the opener before falling 37-19 to Yorktown.
Sara Muhlenkamp led the Chiefs with 12 points, and Macey Weitzel followed with nine. Mikele Suman tallied four points.
The EJMS eighth graders move to 14-1 on the season, while the seventh graders fall to 4-11.

WJ falls in title
DUNKIRK — The West Jay eighth grade boys basketball team lost in the championship game of its invitational on Saturday.
After defeating South Adams 33-13 in the first game, the Eagles fell to Adams Central by a score of 47-34.
Noah Harris recorded 19 points for the tournament to lead West Jay. Wyatt Geesaman scored 17 points, Nick Raines tallied 16 points and Gabe Faulkner had 11.
The West Jay seventh graders dropped both games of its tournament, 47-29 to South Adams and 31-23 to Adams Central in the consolation game.
Trevon Vore tallied 15 points for the tournament, and Brinnin Wasson tallied 13 points.
