East Jay boys advance

PONETO — East Jay Middle School’s seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams advanced to the Allen County Athletic Conference tournament semifinals with wins over Southern Wells on Monday.
The Chief eighth graders held the Raiders to just three points in the second half in their 37-14 victory. The seventh graders avenged a 12-point loss in the regular season to edge the Raiders, 22-20.
Ryan Schlechty led the eighth graders with 10 points, and Parker Grimes added eight. Matthew Franks, Michael Schlechty and Gavin Randall all tallied four points and Korbin Auker chipped in with three.
Gabe Link and Noah Arbuckle paced the seventh grade Chiefs with nine points apiece, and Brandon Cramer added two points.
The eighth graders will play Adams Central in the semifinals and the seventh graders will meet South Adams. Both games will be Wednesday at Adams Central. The seventh grade contest will start at 5 p.m. with the eighth graders to follow.

EJ girls move on
The East Jay eighth grade girls basketball team picked up a 37-17 victory over Southern Wells on Monday in the opening round of the ACAC tournament.
The seventh grade Chiefs fell, 31-22.
Kendra Muhlenkamp led the eighth graders with 12 points, and Hanna Dillon followed with nine. Klarisa Hemmelgarn and Gwen Omstead had five points apiece, and Sammie Twigg tallied four points.
Macey Weitzel totaled 10 points for the seventh graders, and Sara Muhlenkamp chipped in with eight points. Emma James and Anhely Montes had two points each.
The EJMS eighth graders (15-1) will play at home on Wednesday.

West Jay tops Burris
MUNCIE — Gabe Faulkner and Wyatt Geesaman put on an offensive show Monday in the West Jay eighth grade boys basketball team’s 42-31 win against Muncie Burris.
The seventh grade Eagles fell, 36-17.
Faulkner poured in 18 points and Geesaman added 15 points as they combined to score more points than the entire Owl team. Geesaman had a team-high eight rebounds and Faulkner grabbed six boards.
Noah Harris added five points, and Nick Rains and Jade Robbins each had two points.
Brinnin Wasson scored five points to lead the seventh grade Eagles, who also got four points each from Peyton Nichols and Storm McLaughlin. Dylan Bowler and Trevon Vore tallied two points apiece.

Tribe boys fall
FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams both fell to Celina on Monday.
The eighth graders lost 43-38, and the seventh graders fell 28-24.
Payton Jutte and Mason Will led the Tribe eighth graders with 13 and eight points respectively. Clayton Pearson and Derrick Siefring chipped in with six points apiece, and Kody Shinaberry added three. Brayden Schoen tallied two points.
For the seventh grade Indians, Grant Knapke and Riley Post both had a team-high six points. Jared Timmerman and Ian Homan chipped in with four points each, and Derek Wendel and Owen Schoen both scored two points.
