Input meeting will be held at Arts Place
Taking Note
The public is invited to a community input meeting for the development of Arts Place in Portland.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at 131 E. Walnut St. in Portland and will be facilitated by Sara Peterson, a planning consultant.
Arts Place is in the beginning phase of planning for a capital project that will result in major improvements.
Student of Month
West Jay Middle School named its Students of the Month for January.
In sixth grade was Chloe Campbell, the daughter of Craig and Stacy Campbell.
In seventh grade was Ethan Andreshak, the son of Michael and Kerri Andreshak.
In eighth grade was Elaine Lennington, the daughter of Tracey Winget.
Spelling champs
Pennville Elementary recently named its Spelling Bee winners.
The champion was McKenna Vore, a fifth grade student and the daughter of Joseph and Amy Vore.
She will advance to the Star Press Annual Regional Spelling Bee to be held on Feb. 28 at Cornerstone Center for the Arts in Muncie.
The alternate is Madison Calvert, also a fifth grader.
She is the daughter of George Calvert and Deidre Wilson.
Dean’s list
Brayden L. Dues, Portland, was named to the 2014 fall dean’s list at Wilmington (Ohio) College. Dues is a graduate of Jay County High School and is a freshman at Wilmington majoring in agriculture.
Jonathan D. Miller, Portland, was named to the dean’s list for the November 2014 session in the College of Applied Technologies at the University of Northwestern, Ohio, in Lima.
