Auker lifts EJ in 2OT

Local roundup

MONROE — East Jay Middle School’s eighth grade boys basketball team will get to play for the Allen County Athletic Conference tournament championship.
Korbin Auker’s put-back bucket as time expired lifted the Chiefs to a 55-53 double overtime victory Wednesday in the ACAC semifinal against the host Adams Central Flying Jets.
Auker, who finished with eight points, controlled the rebound from his own miss and then put up his game-winning shot that bounced around the rim and in.
Matthew Franks led the Chiefs with 11 points. Ryan and Michael Schlechty followed with 10 points a piece, and Parker Grimes added seven points.
East Jay (14-2) avenged its loss to the Jets earlier in the season and will play in the conference title game at 11:15 a.m. Saturday at Southern Wells.
The seventh grade Chiefs fell to South Adams in the tournament semifinal, 28-20. Noah Arbuckle and Gabe Link led East Jay with nine points each.

The East Jay eighth grade girls basketball team advanced to the ACAC semifinal with a 34-6 rout of Adams Central on Wednesday.
