'Wowbrary" designed to alert readers

Taking Note

New ‘Wowbrary’ email and widget alerts are available through Jay County Public Library.
‘Wowbrary’ sends emails showing the latest books, movies and music CDs that are new at the library each week. For more information or to sign up, visit www.wowbrary.org.
A ‘wowbrary’ widget is also available on the library’s website at www.jaycpl.lib.in.us. Simply click ‘Newest Arrivals.’
A reading activity program “Check Meowt” with Pete the Cat will begin in February for preschool and elementary age kids. Activity and reading calendars will be available on Monday at the library.  
Cabin Fever Cures continue at 10 a.m. each Thursday in February at the library. SNA (special needs adults) Music and Movement will be Feb. 5, and a snowman craft will be made on Feb. 12. Please bring crew or knee socks. SNA Stories and Crafts will be Feb. 19, and Coffee Cups and Book Bites (a literary social event) will be held Feb. 26.
Story times will be held at 11:30 a.m. each Wednesday in February. Stories will be read, a song or flannel board will be shared and a craft will be made. Children need to attend with a parent or caregiver.
Mother Goose & Me, for infants, toddlers and preschoolers, will be held at 10 a.m. each Friday in February. There will be rhymes, music, fun and learning.
Lego Club will meet between 2:30 and 4 p.m. each Tuesday in February. Legos, Duplo and Mega Blocks are available.
Three new programs for children will begin in February at JCPL. An evening story time will be held at 6:30 p.m. each Thursday beginning Feb. 5. Story times will continue through April.
Maker Club will be held from 2:30 to 4 p.m. the second Friday of each month beginning Feb. 13.
The group’s first projects will include making a Valentine card, building a structure from drinking straws and building a pompom launcher. Making It On My Own will be held between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. the fourth Saturday of each month beginning Feb. 28. Supplies and instructions to complete several crafts will be available in the children’s area of the library.
Kelsey Timmerman, Indiana Emerging Author Award winner, will make an appearance at 6:30 p.m. on March 16 at the library.
Timmerman is the author of “Where Am I Wearing?” and “Where Am I Eating?”
Copies of his books can be ordered at the library before March 5 to have Timmerman autograph. The cost is $13.24 each.

Clubs meeting in February at the library will include Cookbook Club at 6:15 p.m. on Feb. 9, JayCPL Book Club at 7 p.m. on Feb. 16 to discuss “The Magnificent Ambersons” by Booth Tarkington, JayCPL Writers Guild at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 23 and Hook &?Needles Club at 5 p.m. on Feb. 24.
 
Veterans meeting
All wartime military veterans in Jay and surrounding counties are invited to a special service session at American Legion Post No. 85 in Huntington.
The sessions will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, and Friday, Feb. 6, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7. Representatives from national and state teams will discuss veteran’s benefits and community service.

Several area students graduated from Ball State University after the fall 2014 semester.
Dustin Habegger earned a bachelor of arts degree, Caleb Culy graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science degree and Amanda Rion earned a bachelor of science degree. They are all from Portland.
Josh Beaty, Redkey, received a bachelor of science degree.
Caroline Rouse, Dunkirk, received a bachelor of science degree.
Eric Homan, Bryant, received a master of science degree.
Kimberly Widener, Fort Recovery, received a bachelor of general studies.
