Capsule Reports

Motorcycle rear-ended
Two North Carolina residents were involved in an accident Monday at 10:03 a.m.
Brenna Moser and Zachary Moser, both 22, both of 204 Angie Court, Richlands, North Carolina, were traveling west on county road 300 North when Brenna Moser failed to see Zachary Moser turn on his right turn signal.
Brenna’s 2011 Ford Escape XLT, registered to Zachary Moser, struck the rear of Zachary’s 2001 Honda VT1100 motorcycle as he was turning onto 250 West.
Estimated damage was between $5,001 and $10,000.

Parking lot accident
Two Portland women were involved in an accident Monday morning at 7:53 a.m. in the McDonald’s parking lot, 618 N Meridian in Portland.
Deborah Brinkerhoff, 67, 950 Boundary Pike, was driving through the parking lot when she hit Karen Bishop’s vehicle with her 2006 Dodge Caravan.
Brinkerhoff told police she did not see Bishop, 72, 1131 Wayside Place, traveling beside her when she struck the passenger side door of her 2001 Chevrolet Equinox.
Damage was estimated between $1,001 and $2,500.

Dumpster fire
Trash in a dumpster caught on fire Monday afternoon on Main Street near Garfield Street.
Portland Fire Department arrived at 4:34 p.m. with one truck and six firefighters. The fire was out by 4:53 p.m.
Best Way Disposal owns the dumpster. The company told the fire department this morning the dumpster only needs a new coat of paint.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.

Lot collision
A Fort Recovery man and a Portland woman were involved in an accident Friday in the parking lot of Circle K, 325 N. Meridian St., Portland.
Ronald Lee, 71, 117 W. Broadway St., Lot 15, Fort Recovery, was backing out of a parking spot when the rear of his 1997 Dodge truck collided with the driver’s side of a 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser being driven by Rebecca Coleman, 55, 140 E. Baker St., Portland.
Damage in the 10:29 a.m. accident was estimated to be between $1,000 and $2,500.

One injured
A Portland teenager was injured in an accident Friday in Pike Township.

Bailey Corn, 18, 315 W. Arch St., was treated at the scene for severe bleeding and transported to Jay County Hospital.
Corn was traveling north on Boundary Pike north of county road 650 South in his 2004 Chrysler Sebring.
He told police a southbound truck was on his side of the road, causing him to hit his brakes.
His vehicle swerved off the east side of the road and struck the end of a guardrail.
The vehicle then rolled before coming to rest off the road.
Total damage in the 12:55 p.m. accident was estimated to be between $5,000 and $10,000

Deer hit
A Portland woman hit a deer with her SUV at 5:45 p.m. Thursday.
Beth Rinker, 41, 4729 W. 50 South, was traveling east on Indiana 26, near its intersection with county road 300 West, when a deer ran onto the road from the north side.
Rinker told police that she could not avoid hitting the deer with her 2007 Honda CR-V.
Damage was estimated to be between $2,501 and $5,000.

Cow collision
A Redkey driver struck a cow with her vehicle at 9:55 p.m. Friday on Indiana 67.
Joan Kerrigan, 79, 6617 W. 700 South, was traveling west on Indiana 67, near the intersection of county road 200 East, when a cow ran onto the roadway.
Kerrigan, driving a 2008 Chevrolet Impala registered to Pete’s Standard, 406 N. Meridian St, Portland, was unable to avoid hitting the cow with the vehicle.
The owner of the cow was Joseph Schwartz, 6829 N. 200 East Bryant. Estimated damage was between $2,501 and $5,000.

Woman injured
An Indianapolis woman was injured in an accident Thursday at the intersection of county roads 800 South and 700 West.
Tracy M. Ferguson, 34, 931 W. Votaw St., Apt. 4, Portland, traveled north on county road 700 West and stopped at the stop sign. She told Jay County Sheriff’s Office she did not see a westbound vehicle on county road 800 South.
Ferguson pulled out and the front of her 1998 Buick struck the front of a 1991 Ford driven by Joseph R. Jeffris, 37, 2841 S. Pennsylvania St., Indianapolis.
Jeffris’s passenger, Mary L. Jeffris, same address, was treated for pain in her lower leg.
Damage in the 2:13 p.m. accident was estimated between $5,001 and $10,000.
