Limberlost to host Geneva’s birthday party

Limberlost State Historic Site will celebrate Geneva’s Geneva: Mrs. Porter’s Birthday Celebration in August.
Adults, 21 and older, are invited to the visitor center from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday for an evening of beer and wine tasting in honor of Gene Stratton-Porter’s birthday and life in Geneva from 1888 to 1913.
There will also be hors d’oeuvres, birthday cake and live period music performed by Adrienne Provenzano.
The cost is $15 a person and reservations are appreciated but not required.

Surpassed goal
Arts Place Campaign 2015 reached its goal of $410,000 on June 29 with a total of $410,043 in private grants and contributions.

The next day, another $1,500 was given in an effort by Blackford County Arts Center.

School supplies
The Salvation Army will be giving away free school supplies from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 3, to students in Jay County. Supplies will be available at the Wayne Township Trustee office, 210 W. Main St. in Portland.

Juried art show
The 2015 Juried Art Show at Blackford County Arts Center continues through Aug. 28.
The center is located at 107 W. Washington St. in Hartford City and is open Monday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 to 7 p.m.; and Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m.
