Backing accident
A Portland woman backed her car into another vehicle parked Wednesday afternoon at Circle K, 325 N. Meridian St., Portland.
Patricia L. Vanskyock, 70, 1513 W. 500 South, struck a 1988 Chevrolet with her 1997 Ford Explorer. The Chevrolet was parked behind her on the south side of the parking lot.
The Chevrolet is registered to the U.S. Postal Service, 119 S. Meridian St., Portland.
Damage in the 2:36 p.m. accident was estimated to be less than $1,000.

Fire extinguished
Portland and Pennville firefighters responded to a structure fire at 026 S. 300 West, Portland, Wednesday night.
Firefighters arrived at 8:30 p.m. At 8:40 p.m., smoke could be seen coming from the building, but no flames were visible. At 10:01 p.m., the fire was out.
Portland sent four trucks and nineteen firefighters and was assisted by Pennville.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Intersection accident
Three Ohio residents were taken to Mercer Community Hospital after a 4:37 p.m. accident July 23.
Chassity Ann Hemmelgarn, 16, 2026 Watkins Road, Fort Recovery, was driving west on Watkins Road and failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection with Township Line Road. Her 2001 Mercury Sable struck a 1988 Buick Electra being driven south on Township Line Road by Gary R. Sutter, 39, 262 Columbus St., St. Henry, Ohio.
Hemmelgarn, Sutter and Hemmelgarn’s passenger, Renee Cristine Keuss, 17, 2039 Mercer County-Darke County Line Road, Fort Recovery, were taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries.
