Felony arrests
Dealing meth
A Portland man was arrested Friday afternoon on a bench warrant for dealing methamphetamine.
Russell A. Haffner, 52, 603 N. Garfield St., is preliminarily charged with dealing in methamphetamine, a Level 4 felony. Dealing in methamphetamine would usually be a Level 5 felony, but Haffner’s residence was within 40 feet of General Shanks Elementary, leading to the charge enhancement.
He was arrested and booked at 3:49 p.m. into Jay County Jail, where he remains under a $25,000 bond.
Haffner’s son Brandon Haffner, 23, was arrested Wednesday on bench warrants for dealing in methamphetamine, a Level 4 felony, and theft, a Class A misdemeanor. He was booked into Jay County Jail and remains under a $28,000 bond.
On May 20, Brandon Haffner allegedly stole car keys at Walmart. He also allegedly pulled a knife on a man at 310 E. Elder St. that day. An arrest warrant was issued for theft, and Haffner was arrested at that location.
The Drug Task Force gained consent to search the residence for the keys and allegedly found items associated with producing methamphetamine in the process. The task force gained a search warrant and allegedly found more items associated with manufacturing methamphetamine, as well as a snow blower stolen from a neighbor.
The Jay County Health Department condemned the property May 21.
