Swing of Faith event set

Taking Note

A carnival and benefit motorcycle ride will be held Saturday at Hudson Family Park in Portland to benefit Swing of Faith.
Swing of Faith is an organization that hopes to provide handicapped swings in all parks and schools in Jay County. The five-person swings include a wheel chair platform, adaptive chair and a molded seat with two seat belts at a cost of around $5,000.
The Nick Harless Band will perform from noon until 2 p.m. and Elvis impersonator Brandon Howard will take the stage from 2 to 4 p.m. The motorcycle ride will begin at 4:30 and end at 7 p.m., with the Chillbillies performing after. Visits with Ana and Elsa will be available throughout the day.

Giving grants
The Portland Foundation Women’s Giving Circle is currently accepting grant applications.
The focus of the grants are to enhance Jay County’s not-for-profit organizations by providing programs that address the critical need of providing shelter to impoverished Jay County residents.

Director needed
Jay County Civic Theatre Inc. is in search of a director for its upcoming production of Young Frankenstein.

Ramirez recital
Angie Chan Ramirez will present a piano recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Arts Place in Portland.
She graduated from Kent State in 2014 and is currently studying with Dr. Raymond Kilburn at Ball State University and is pursuing a double master’s degree in piano performance and pedagogy composition.
She will perform her graduation recital at 5:30 p.m. on July 6 in Sursa Hall at BSU.

Concert series
The free Summer Concert Series continues at 7 p.m. Saturday  at Dunkirk Webster-Depot Park.
John Beatrice Band will play classic rock, oldies, classic and contemporary country music,  with Dunkirk Elks Lodge No. 1776 hosting.

Graduated
Devon Hudson graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point on May 23.
He is the son of Don and Karen Hudson, Greensburg, and the grandson of Janice L. Hudson, Portland.
Andrew Wood, Portland, graduated from Anderson University on May 9

Dean’s list
Julie Valentine, Portland, was named to the second semester high honors dean’s list at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri.
She is majoring in fashion marketing and management and is the daughter of Mark and Marianne Valentine.
Former Jay County resident Kalib J. Allen, Ossian, was named to the dean’s list for the March 2015 session in the College of Applied Technologies at the University of Northwestern Ohio in Lima.
