Beta Theta attended state convention

Members of the local Beta Theta Chapter of Tri Kappa Sorority recently attended its 61st State Convention at Indianapolis Marriott East.
Attending were Linda Frantz, Pat Gibson, Mary Laux, Tami Tillman and Carla Johnson.
At the state level, Tri Kappa has given more than $37,000 to Riley Hospital; $18,500 to Alzheimer’s Association, Best Buddies, Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Junior Mental Health Association, Mental Health America, Prevent Child Abuse, National Alliance on Mental Health and Special Olympics; nearly $500,000 for scholarships for Indiana students; and $8,000 to Purdue University, Indiana State University, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and Indiana Academy at Ball State University for their gifted and talented programs.     
The local 25-member philanthropic group earns money through selling nuts, working at the Jay County Fair and a yearly bingo event.
Proceeds are donated to Arts Place, 4th of July committee, Community and Family Services, Habitat for Humanity, Jay County Historical Society, Pregnancy Care Center, Jay County Retirement Center, United Way and Winterfest. Tri Kappa also funded the building of the gazebo at Hudson Family Park.
 
Blood drive
An Indiana Fallen Officer Blood Drive will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Jay Community Center in Portland.

Theme chosen
The theme for the 13th annual Jay County Heritage Festival will be “Cruise Into the Past — Auto Dealerships of Jay County.”
The festival will be held Oct. 3 and 4 at the Jay County Historical Museum, 903 E. Main St. in Portland.
