Rain postpones Rockets doubleheader

Portland has had to cancel or postpone 14 games this season

Mother Nature has not been kind to the Portland Rockets.
Heavy rains Friday night caused the postponement of today’s doubleheader with the Fort Wayne Expos.
“Rain and (flooding) more so than ever seen at the corner,” the team’s website said Friday evening, referencing Runkle-Miller Field located at the intersection of Western Avenue and Blaine Pike.
Portland (12-3)?was scheduled to host the Expos for a twin bill today, then travel to the Summit City on Sunday for a doubleheader against the same squad.
With sunshine expected in the Fort Wayne area on Sunday, it seems likely the two teams will get to square off.

This is the second time this season Portland had to postpone its doubleheader with the Expos. A slew of Fort Wayne injuries forced their June 13 meeting to be pushed back to today. This time, weather was the culprit.
No make up date has been set, and it is unclear if they will be rescheduled yet again. Portland has now had to cancel or postpone 14 games this season.
Following Sunday’s games, Portland heads back to Carrington Field in Fort Wayne on Tuesday to take on the Fort Wayne Marlins.
Then, the Rockets return home to host the Firecracker Classic Tournament July 3 through 5. The tournament schedule will be announced at a later date.
Portland has won four of its last six games after starting the year 8-1. It split a doubleheader with Taylor University’s Twin City Bankers before rattling off seven straight victories. The Rockets’ only losses are to the Bankers — twice — and to the South Bend Cardinals.
