Patriots named all-conference

A trio of Jay County High School girls basketball players were recently named to the All-Allen County Athletic Conference first team.
Two South Adams Starfires also cracked the list for the best players in the conference.
Jay County seniors Bre McIntire and Catherine Dunn, and junior Abby Wendel were named first team All-ACAC. The trio led the Patriots to a 20-6 record and a perfect 7-0 mark in the conference to earn the conference tournament championship and the regular season title.
Wendel averaged 9.7 points per game to lead Jay County, and Dunn was close behind with 9.4 points per game. McIntire was third on the team in scoring with eight points.
For South Adams, senior Cindy In’tGroen and junior Sydney Willis received first-team honors.
The Starfires were 13-10 this season with a 4-3 record in the ACAC.
Jay County sophomore Taylor Homan, South Adams senior Sharon Balsiger and Starfire freshman Lexi Dellinger were named to the second team

Three earn all-MAC
A trio of Fort Recovery High School boys basketball players received all-Midwest Athletic Conference honors.
Sophomore Micaiah Cox was named all-MAC second team while juniors Brandon “Speedy” Schoen and Darien Sheffer were given honorable mention.
Cox, who was the only Tribe player to start all 22 games, led the Indians (7-15, 2-7 MAC) with 14 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. He also had team-highs in shooting percentage (56 percent) and blocks (23).
Sheffer was second on the team in scoring and rebounds, averaging 7.4 points and 4.5 rebounds respectively per game. He also tallied a team-high 42 steals.
Schoen averaged 5.2 points, three rebounds and 5.9 assists per game during his junior campaign.

Eagles win, tie
PONETO — The West Jay Middle School wrestling team competed in a double-dual on Monday against the host Southern Wells Raiders and the Woodlan Warriors.
The Eagles came away with a 28-24 victory against the Warriors, and tied the Raiders 27-27.
Nathaniel Lykins (150-pound weight class) and Malcolm McIntire (102) both had a pair of wins for the Eagles (4-4-1).
Also picking up wins were Carter Mitchell (85), Sean Ashley (95), Zakk Atkins (110), Brenden Lawhorn (125), Andrew Toney (140), Larkin Alsip (220) and Braiden Boyle (HWT).
Rob Garringer, Bryan Alexander, Ashley and McIntire also won exhibition matches for West Jay.
