Patriots set new indoor records
JCHS track
ANDERSON — The Jay County High School girls track team set three indoor school records Saturday during the Patriot Invitational at Anderson University.
Emma Laux, who set a new mark in the 60-meter dash March 7, broke her own record in the event with a time of 8.55 seconds. She finished 10th, and beat her previous record by one tenth of a second.
Malarie Houck finished fourth in the 60 hurdles, setting a new JCHS record with a time of 10.41 seconds.
The 4x800 relay team also set a new indoor school record. Sisters Ava and Erika Kunkler, Kellie Fortkamp and Megan Wellman turned in a fifth-place finish in 10 minutes, 24 seconds. The quartet also placed third in the distance medley relay with a time of 13:46.
Briana Muhlenkamp, Lexi Myers, Britlyn Dues and Houck placed eighth in the 4x400 relay (4:27). The 4x200 relay team of Taylor Homan, Emma Laux, Lucy Laux and Myers was ninth in 1:56.
Nathan Heitkamp and Aaron Neal earned the only two top-10 finishes for the Patriot boys. They finished third and fourth respectively in the long jump. Heitkamp leaped a distance of 19 feet, 3.5 inches, and Neal had a distance of 19 feet, 1.5 inches.
