Stammen, Lochtefeld spark Tribe rout

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — Mitchel Stammen and Nathan Lochtefeld provided the offense.
Jackson Hobbs shut down the Irish.
Stammen drove in six runs and Lochtefeld tallied four RBIs as Fort Recovery’s baseball team dominated Springfield Central Catholic 22-4 on Saturday at Carleton Davis Field on the campus of Springfield University.
It was the second game of a doubleheader for the Division IV No. 1 Indians (18-2), who lost earlier to the Kenton Ridge Cougars, 6-0. The Cougars finished 13th in Division II in this week’s Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association poll voting.
Fort Recovery had a 3-1 lead after two innings before striking for seven runs in the third against the Irish. The Tribe followed it up with 11 runs in the fourth, and added one more in the fifth for good measure.
Hobbs needed only 32 pitches over four innings to get the win. He gave up one unearned run on three hits. Derek Backs allowed three earned runs on four walks in relief, lasting only a third of an inning.
Stammen had two triples in the game, with Cole Wendel, Ben Will and Lochtefeld each adding doubles. Stammen also swiped two bases, pushing his season total to 23. He set the single-season school record last year with 27.
In the first game, the Cougars nabbed a 1-0 lead in the third inning before tacking on three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh.

FORT WAYNE — South Adams’ boys golf team shot a season-low 390 on Saturday, placing 13th in the Canterbury Invitational at Chestnut Hills Golf Course.
Lafayette Harrison, which was ranked No. 12 in the most recent coaches’ poll, won the tournament with a score of 310. No. 16 Leo was runner-up with a 316, and Carroll was six strokes behind in third.
South Adams freshman David Muselman fired an 86 to lead the Starfires from the No. 2 spot. Jacob Rife shot a 92, and Nick Wurster was third on the team with a 98. Lucas Bluhm closed out the Stars’ team score with a 114.
Chris Beitler also competed, finishing with a 145.

FR softball 11th seed
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s softball team will be seeded 11th in the Division IV Wapakoneta District tournament.
The Indians (1-12), who snapped a 31-game losing streak with a 15-14 victory over the Coldwater Cavaliers on Saturday, meet the No. 5 seed and Midwest Athletic Conference foe St. Henry Redskins at 5 p.m. May 14 in St. Henry.
Top-seeded Crestview will host a sectional championship against either No. 8 seed Lima Perry or No. 9 seed Delphos Jefferson. The winner advances to the district semifinal at 5 p.m. May 19 in Wapakoneta.
The other half of the bracket has No. 2 New Bremen hosting the winner of Minster and Ottoville in the sectional title game, and third-seeded Spencerville plays host to either Marion Local or Lincolnview in another sectional championship. The winners advance to the second district semifinal scheduled for 5 p.m. May 20 at Wapakoneta.
The district championship game is slated for 5 p.m. May 22.
