Wanner sets, ties records

BERNE — Addie Wanner broke her own school record and tied another on Tuesday, helping the South Adams High School girls track team to a first-place finish.
South Adams scored 82 points for a comfortable victory. The Heritage Patriots were runner up with 39 points, edging the Bluffton Tigers by one point.
Bluffton won the boys meet with 77.5 points. South Adams was second with 59.5 points, and Heritage scored 18 for third.

Wanner, a freshman, lowered her mark in the 100-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line with a time of 15.5 seconds. She tied the school record in the high jump, winning the event with a height of 5 feet, 2 inches.
Caroline Kloepper also won a pair of events for SAHS, finishing first in the 100 dash (13.1 seconds) and the 200 dash (27.3). Hannah Imel (400 dash), Olivia Von Gunten (3,200 run) and Kylie Grabau (shot put) also won for the Starfire girls.
Drew Lefever picked up a pair of wins in the field events. He was first in the shot put (49 feet, 9 inches) and discus (146 feet, 1 inch). Wyatt Miller (3,200) and Paul Neuenschwander (200 dash) also earned victories. 

Vikings beat Stars
HUNTINGTON — The South Adams girls tennis team fell to 5-7 on the season with a 5-0 loss to the Huntington North Vikings on Tuesday.
Starfire No. 1 singles player Brittany Potts lost to Kylie Fredrick 6-1, 6-1. Emily Eherenman defeated Maddie Graber of SAHS at No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-0, and Caralie Farlow fell to Katie Hunt at No. 3 singles at 6-0, 6-0.
Kara Seffernick and Autumn Von Gunten lost at No. 2 doubles to Sarah Fryman and Maddie Phillips 6-2, 3-6, 6-2, and at No. 1 singles Riley Liechty and Kylea Pierce fell to Ana Eckert and Emily Karst 6-2, 6-1.
The South Adams junior varsity team also lost, 6-3.
Erika Badertscher earned the only singles victory for the JV Starfires, 6-0.
Julia Grabau and Sydney Pierce won their doubles match 8-4, and Cassie Yoder teamed with Virginia Logos for a 6-3 doubles victory.

SA golfers runner-up
WARREN — The Starfire boys golf team finished second Tuesday at Dogwood Glenn Golf Course.
The Bluffton Tigers won the four-team math with a score of 180, finishing ahead of South Adams by 11 strokes. Southern Wells was third with 215, and Adams Central scored 237 for fourth.
David Muselman led South Adams with a 45. Jacob Rife and Nick Wurster posted matching scores of 47, and Marcus Teeter closed out the team score of 181 with a 52.
Lucas Bluhm also competed, shooting a 53.
Jackson Ingle and Jonas Smith, both of Bluffton, shared match medalist honors with a 44.

Tribe routs Rangers
NEW KNOXVILLE, Ohio — Five was the magic number for the Indians on Tuesday.
Fort Recovery’s baseball team scored five runs in three separate innings on a 16-0 rout of the New Knoxville Rangers in five innings.
The Tribe (19-2, 6-1 Midwest Athletic Conference) put up a five spot in each of the first two innings, and did so again in the fourth. The Indians scored one more run in the fifth for the lopsided win. 
Chase Bruns led the Indians with three hits and four RBIs. Nathan Lochtefeld added two hits and three RBIs, and Jacob Homan also added a pair of singles. Cole Wendel, Kyle Schroer, Jackson Hobbs, Bruns, Lochtefeld and Homan each scored twice.
Homan earned the win on the bump for the Tribe, scattering two hits while striking out two and walking three in five innings.

Indians fall to Cards
FORT RECOVERY — After snapping a 31-game losing streak on Saturday, the Fort Recovery softball team dropped its second game in as many days on Tuesday in a 13-2 loss to the New Bremen Cardinals.
New Bremen (13-6, 5-2 Midwest Athletic Conference) jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the third inning before the Indians (1-14, 0-6 MAC) scored a run in the bottom of the frame.
The Cardinals added one run in the fourth, four in the fifth and three in the sixth, and Fort Recovery scored again in the second.
Chelsea Timmerman had a single, a double and drove in a run for the Indians. Devin Post also drove in the other run.
Audra Metzger, Haley Knapke, Emily Hart, Taylor Thien and Grace Thien each added hits. Timmerman took the loss, giving up six runs — three earned — on five hits in four innings.
