Capsule Reports

Collision
A Portland woman’s vehicle struck a stopped van about 7:17 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Meridian Street and Floral Avenue in Portland.
Mila Addington, 47, 5719 S. 700 East, was southbound on Meridian Street in a 2000 GMC Yukon, registered to William Addington, 2201 S. 425 East, Portland. According to a Portland police report, Addington’s foot slipped off the brake as she approached the intersection, causing her vehicle to strike the rear of a stopped 2004 Ford Freestar driven by George Goldsworthy, 55, 3116 S. Jefferson St., Muncie.
Damage in the accident was estimated to be between $2,500 and $5,000.

Signal disregarded
Two Portland men were involved in an accident about 3:23 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Meridian and High streets in Portland.
Gary Nichols, 72, 102 Williamson Drive, told Portland police he was stopped on Meridian Street at High Street, and started to proceed south through the intersection when the traffic signal was red. The 2006 Chevrolet Equinox he was driving was then struck by a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by James Landess, 60, 600 S. Meridian St., Apt 213. Landess was eastbound on High Street.
Damage in the accident was estimated to be between $2,500 and $5,000.

Backing accident
Two area residents were involved in an accident about 11:26 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of U.S. 27 and Indiana 67.
Ruben Nolt, 43, 4845 W. Indiana 116, Geneva, was stopped on U.S. 27 when a tractor trailer traveling west on Indiana 67 began to turn south onto U.S. 27. According to a Jay County Sheriff’s Office report, Nolt began to back up his 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan to allow the tractor through, and struck the front of a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Inger Rathburn, 87, 510 N. Middle St., Portland.
Damage in the accident was estimated to be less than $1,000.


Adams accident
A truck driven by a Geneva man collided with a car at Adams County road 300 South at its intersection with U.S. 27 about 3:50 p.m. Friday.
Mavrick F. Morningstar, 18, Geneva, was backing up a Lehman Feed Mill truck to make room for another vehicle at the intersection when the truck struck a car driven by Michelle M. Gough, 47, Roanoke, that was stopped behind the truck.

Burglary
A Portland resident’s home was burglarized Tuesday morning.
Janet Shawver, 5444 W. 200 South, left for work at 9 a.m. Tuesday and when she returned about 11:45 a.m. she found her house had been burglarized. According to a Jay County Sheriff’s Office report, a side garage door had been forced open and someone had gotten into the house by kicking in a metal door leading into the home from the attached garage.
Cash and possibly some jewelry had been taken from the home, and Shawver is compiling a list of all the missing items.

In area courts
In Celina (Ohio) Municipal Court the following residents were fined for speeding: Tyler Lamontagne, 21, 4842 Ohio 49, Fort Recovery, $30; Brian Welling, 22, Bryant, $30; and Adam Rosenback, 28, Bryant, $30.
Kayla Farris, 35, Portland, was fined $28.50 for an open container in a motor vehicle.
Ann Lochtefeld, 75, 1085 Union City Road, Fort Recovery, was fined $23.50 for failure to yield.
