Indiana athletes took four of the top eight spots in the shot put at the National Christian College Athletic Association Outdoor Track and Field Championships. One of them was a former Patriot.
Tyler Back, a 2013 Jay County High School graduate, scored for Grace College at the NCCAA meet, which was held Friday and Saturday in Rome, Georgia.
Back was in second place after his opening throw of the day traveled 44 feet, 5 inches. His best effort of the day — 46 feet, 11 3/4 inches — came on his fifth throw, and he went on to finish in seventh place.
Collin Affolder
South Adams – 2014
Tallied two singles, an RBI and a run for the Bethel College baseball team Monday in a 22-3 loss to Huntington University Foresters in the Crossroads League tournament.
The loss ended the season for the Pilots (18-27).
Affolder also went 1-for-3 Saturday in a 3-1 win in the opening round of the tournament against the Foresters.
The former Starfire finished his freshman campaign with a .266 batting average with six doubles, 20 runs and nine RBIs. He appeared in 44 of the Pilots’ 45 games, all of which were starts.
Kyle Selvey
Jay County – 2014
Struck out twice in as many at bats Monday for the Huntington University baseball team in its 22-3 victory against Affolder and the Bethel College Pilots the Crossroads League tournament.
Selvey entered as a substitute at second base.
He appeared in five games this season for the Foresters (27-15), drawing one walk in six plate appearances. He did not record a hit in five at bats.
Dylan Cope
Jay County – 2013
Competed for the Indiana University East men’s track team Saturday at the Billy Hayes Invitational at Indiana University.
Cope posted an eighth-place effort for the Red Wolves in the 800-meter run. He crossed the finish line in 1 minute, 57.45 seconds.
