Jay County softball routs Bearcats

MUNCIE — Six players recorded multi-hit games as the Jay County softball team dismantled the Muncie Central Bearcats in five innings Friday, 11-0.
Jay County (11-9) jumped on the Bearcats early, scoring two runs in each of the first two innings. The Patriots added one more in the third before putting up five in the fourth four a 10-0 lead. The visitors tacked on one more in the sixth for the lopsided victory.
Kady Finnerty had two singles and a double to lead the Patriots. Chloe Trissel smacked two doubles and scored three times. Gabby Hart hit her fourth home run of the season as part of her two-hit day.
Catherine Dunn, Courtney Finnerty and Chloe Steigerwalt all had two hits, with Dunn and Finnerty tallying three and two RBIs respectively. Kristen Simons also added a double.
McKayla Norris and Rachel Antrim combined to pitch a two-hit shutout.

Tribe slips to No. 4
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Friday’s loss to St. Henry did more than cost the Indians a chance for a conference championship.
It also resulted in a dip in the polls.
In the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches’ Association poll released today, Fort Recovery fell three spots to No. 4.
The Indians (19-3, 6-2 Midwest Athletic Conference) received six of the 27 first-place votes, collecting a total of 183 points.
Hiland (21-3) moved up three spots to No. 1, as it received 226 points and eight votes for first place. Toronto (194) and Lehman Catholic (192) stayed at No. 2 and No. 3 respectively, and Miller City (125) moved up one spot to fifth.
St. Thomas Aquinas (107), Seneca East (91), Cincinnati Country Day (90), Trimble (87) and Paint Valley (59) round out the top 10.
Fort Recovery hosts the sectional championship at 5 p.m. Wednesday against the winner between Lincolnvew and Waynesfield-Goshen.

Stars fall in title game
BERNE — South Adams rallied to reach the championship game.
It wasn’t able to do it again for the title.
The South Adams baseball gave up seven runs in the fourth inning and couldn’t score past the third inning Saturday, losing 11-3 to the Frankton Eagles in the championship game of the Starfire Invitational.
South Adams (10-9) scored one run in each of the first three innings of the title game, but fell behind in the fourth and couldn’t muster much in the way of offense after the third.
Frankton added to its 7-3 lead with one run in each of the fifth and seventh innings, and two in the sixth to spoil the host Starfires’ hopes at a tournament title.
In the semifinal game against the Central Noble Cougars, South Adams won 3-2 thanks to a walk-off double by Derek Wanner.
Conner Sealscott led the Starfires with four hits, including a solo home run against Frankton. Wanner tallied three hits, and Jayden Dull and Skylar Schoch each tallied two hits.

SA, Bellmont split
DECATUR — The South Adams softball team split a doubleheader on Saturday with the Bellmont Squaws.
The Starfires lost the first game but won the second. Both contests had a final score of 7-3.
South Adams (11-9) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in game two thanks to a three-run second inning. The Starfires extended their lead with a pair of runs in the fourth, but the Squaws broke the shutout with three runs in the sixth to trail 6-3. South Adams added an insurance run in the seventh for the win.
Bellmont took a 3-2 lead after the first inning of game one, and pushed its advantage to 7-2 with two runs in the third and one each in the fourth and fifth frames. South Adams scored one in the sixth, but couldn’t complete the rally.
Alaina Johnston led South Adams with four hits on the day, and scored four times. Maddie Morgan and Lauren Smith each had two hits, with Morgan adding two runs.


Star golfers fourth
BLUFFTON — South Adams’ boys golf team placed fourth Saturday in the Bi-County Tournament at Timber Ridge Golf Course.
Bellmont cruised to the tournament victory with a team score of 334. Norwell was runner-up with 356, and Bluffton was third with 360. South Adams had a team score of 415.
David Muselman led the Starfires with a score of 90 from the No. 2 spot. Jacob Rife was the only other SAHS golfer to break 100, doing so with a 98.
Lucas Bluhm and Marcus Teeter followed with a 112 and 115 respectively. Nick Wurster also competed, turning in a score of 118.
