FR ties school record

Local roundup

MARIA STEIN, Ohio — It took more than three decades for a Tribe baseball team to set a new school record for wins in a season.
The Indians won 20 games last year, breaking the record set by the 1981 squad.
Fort Recovery, the fourth-ranked team in Division IV took advantage of seven errors by Marion Local, picking up its 20th win of the season Tuesday with a 13-2 win in five innings.
Fort Recovery can set a new record tonight when it hosts Waynesfield-Goshen in the sectional championship.
The Indians (20-3, 7-2 Midwest Athletic Conference) got on the board with a run in the opening frame, and added five more in the second. The Flyers (8-15, 1-8 MAC) notched a run in the bottom of the second, but the Tribe tacked on seven more in the fourth.
Jacob Homan and Kyle Schroer each drove in three runs to pace the Fort Recovery offense. Derek Backs, Mitch Stammen, Cole Wendel and Schroer each had two hits.

Redskins top Indians
FORT RECOVERY — An eight-run third inning was all the Wapakoneta Redskins softball team needed in a 14-4 victory against Fort Recovery.
The Redskins scored three runs in the first inning before busting the game open in the third inning. Wapakoneta added one run in each of the fourth and fifth innings to lead 13-0 before Fort Recovery finally scored.
Chelsea Timmerman, Haley Knapke, Emily Hart and Logan Ranly all had RBIs as Fort Recovery (1-20) scored four runs in the fifth inning.
That was all the offense Fort Recovery could muster, and the Redskins added one more run in the top of the seventh.
Timmerman took the loss, giving up all 14 runs — 13 earned — on 14 hits. She struck out three and walked one.

Warriors blank Stars
BERNE — South Adams mustered just a pair of hits in a 10-0 home loss in six innings Tuesday to the Woodlan Warriors.
South Adams (10-10, 3-3 Allen County Athletic Conference) gave up two runs to Woodlan in the top of the first inning, and the Warriors tacked on four more in the second for an early 6-0 lead.
The Starfires kept the visitors off the scoreboard in the third and fourth frames, before Woodlan scored a pair in the fifth and sixth innings.
Jayden Dull smacked a double and Blade Zeitvogel tallied a single for the only two South Adams hits. Derek Wanner, Skylar Schoch and Corbin Blomeke each drew walks.
Dull took the loss for the Stars, giving up eight runs — one earned — on six hits. He struck out three and walked three in five innings of work.

Grimm homers
BERNE — Keirstyn Grimm launched a solo home run in the sixth inning Tuesday, but the South Adams softball team lost to Woodlan, 10-5.
South Adams (10-8, 1-5 ACAC) fell behind 3-2 after the second inning, but took a 4-3 lead in the fourth thanks to an RBI single by Alaina Johnston. The Warriors responded with three in the fifth and two in sixth for an 8-4 lead. Grimm’s first homer of the season got the Starfires to within three. Woodlan tacked on two more in the seventh for the win.
Maddie Morgan and Johnston both had two hits for South Adams. Jade Jauregui and Cindy In’t Groen each chipped in with singles, and Isabella Ramirez hit a double.
Ramirez took the loss, giving up seven runs — five earned — on nine hits in 5 2/3 innings. She truck out one and walked three.
