Gene and Janet Bell, Hartford City, are celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary today. They are former residents of Dunkirk and also lived in Byrdstown, Tennessee, for 15 years.
Gene met Janet Overmyer at a sectional basketball game in Hartford City in 1946 and they were married on May 14, 1950, at Asbury Methodist Church, north of Hartford City, by the Rev. Wilbur Groce.
Janet was a homemaker and Gene was a veteran of the United States Army and retired from Kerr Glass in Dunkirk after 40 years of service.
They are the parents of Steven Bell (wife: Pam), and Connie Brown (husband: Lawrence), both of Hartford City. They also have five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A celebration will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Hartford Place Community Building, 102 Independence Parkway in Hartford City.
The couple requests that gifts be omitted. Cards may be sent to 501 E. Perkins St., Hartford City, IN 47348.
