Patriots fall in walk-off

GASTON — The Patriot softball team was three outs away from sending the game into extra innings Friday.
The Warriors had another idea.
Wes-Del hit a three-run, walk off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Jay County, 7-4.
The Patriots (12-11) had a 2-0 lead after the third inning, but the Warriors went on top with three runs in the fourth. Wes-Del pushed its advantage to 4-2 with a run in the fifth before Jay County tied the game in the seventh.
It was the second loss in as many games for Jay County.
Catherine Dunn led the Patriots with three hits and two RBIs. Gabby Hart added two hits and drove in a run, and Courtney Finnerty had a double.
Chloe Steigerwalt, Kaili Baughman, McKayla Norris and Rachel Antrim each added hits. Antrim took the loss, giving up seven runs — six earned — on 10 hits in seven innings. She walked one.

Argylls sweep Jay
FAIRMOUNT — Jay County’s girls tennis team fell below .500 Friday with a 5-0 loss to the Madison-Grant Argylls.
Jessica Kerrigan of Jay County (5-6) lost at No. 1 singles to Lauren McGuire, 6-4, 6-4 and the Patriots’ Kyra Braun fell to Kanani Price 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. At No. 3 singles, Michelle Wellman lost to Abbey Gunning, 6-1, 6-0.
Jay County’s No. 1 doubles team of Emily Westgerdes and Faith Parr lost to Kelsey Kohlmorgen and Kayla Bair, 6-3, 6-2. At No. 2 doubles, Jay County’s Abby Reier and Abby Saxman fell to Madison Whybrew and Abby Manwell, 6-2, 6-2.
The Patriots’ junior varsity team picked up a sweep in the singles matches in a 3-2 victory against the Argylls.
Shelby McClain won 6-4 at No. 1 singles, and Megan Johnson earned a 6-3 victory at No. 2 singles. No. 3 singles player Francine Muhlenkamp also won, 6-2.

Big inning hurts SA
WALTON — The Starfires had a big third inning Friday.
The host Kings had a bigger one.
After the South Adams baseball team scored five runs in top of the frame, Lewis Cass answered with nine in the bottom half on its way to a 14-9 defeat of the Starfires.
The third inning gave the Kings a 13-6 lead over the Starfires (11-11), who cut the deficit to four with three runs in the fourth. The Kings responded with one more in the fourth, and both teams were scoreless for the remainder of the game.
Jayden Dull led the Starfires with a single and a double. He drove in two runs, scored twice and walked twice. Kenny Amstutz also had two RBIs.
Chandler Ingle and Skylar Schoch had two hits each, with Conner Sealscott and Ingle both hitting doubles.
Justin Nussbaum took the loss, giving up 13 runs — five earned — on fie hits. He walked eight in 2 2/3 innings.

Fisher edges Frontline
Rieley Brewster smacked a triple and added two singles, helping Fisher Meats to a 11-10 victory Friday against Frontline Construction in Portland Junior League’s Rookie softball division.
Kearston Myers and Kylie Klopfenstein both went 2-for-2 in support of Brewster, and Brianna Zorn added a single.
