South Adams sends four to regional meet

NEW HAVEN — Four runners will represent South Adams High School at the regional track meet.
Caroline Kloepper and Addie Wanner both qualified as individuals in two events during Tuesday’s sectional track meet at New Haven.
Kloepper finished second in the 400-meter dash and was fourth in the 100 dash. Wanner was the runner-up in the high jump and finished third in the 100 hurdles.
The top three finishers in each event and the next four fastest times from the four feeder sectionals advance to regional.
Olivia Von Gunten finished fourth in the 800 run to also qualify for regional. She set a school record in the process with her time of 2 minutes, 22.53 seconds.
The trio joined Hanna Imel to finish fifth in the 4x400 relay, also making Tuesday’s regional meet at Marion.
South Adams placed seventh as a team with 17 points. Homestead scored 156 points to run away with the team title. New Haven scored 87.5 points for second, edging Wayne by a half point.

Long lifts Jay Co.
HARTFORD CITY — Levi Long drove in three runs on two hits to lead the Jay County baseball team to a 6-4 win Tuesday against Blackford.
Long hit a two-run double in the top of the first inning as the Patriots struck scored four runs. Tanner Reynolds and Jacob Geesaman each added RBI singles in the frame.
Blackford answered with three runs in the home half of the stanza to trail 4-3.
Both teams scored a run in the fourth, and Jay County (10-11) added an insurance run in the fifth.
Levi Stant led all players with three hits. Cole Stigleman and Mitchell Kunkler each added singles, and Stigleman walked twice.
Long also pitched the Patriots to victory, giving up four runs — three earned — on eight hits. He walked two and struck out four in seven innings.

Tigers top Patriots
ALEXANDRIA — Kyra Braun picked up the only victory Tuesday as the Jay County girls tennis team lost to the Alexandria Tigers, 4-1.
Braun defeated Colleen Matthew 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. The Patriots’ No. 1 singles player Jessica Kerrigan lost to Hannah Libler 6-1, 6-2.
At No. 1 doubles, Jay County’s Emily Westgerdes and Faith Parr lost 6-2, 6-0.
Abby Saxman and Abby Reier dropped their match at No. 2 doubles to Anna Etherington and Sarah Holder 6-0, 6-0.
Jay County’s junior varsity team also lost, 5-0.

Hartzell leads Mainsource
Jayden Hartzell and two hits and three RBIs as MainSource Bank defeated Minnich Poulty 6-2 in Portland Junior League’s Willie Mays division.
Trenton Webster had two singles and two runs for MainSource, and Keagan Hartzell had a two-run double. Cameron Clark also had a double.
Dusty Pearson had the only hit for Minnich. He and Isaac Kunkler each scored a run.
