SAHS beats Snider

Local roundup

BERNE — Morgan Alberson was able to keep the Snider damage to a minimum on Friday night.
At the plate, the sophomore created some fireworks for her Starfire squad.
Alberson was one of three players to record multi-hit games — including her first career home run — as the South Adams High School softball team defeated the Snider Panthers, 5-2.
After Snider scored a run in the top of the first inning, South Adams (12-12) took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the frame.
The Panthers tied the game in the third, but Starfires added two more in the fifth. Then in the bottom of the sixth, Alberson’s homer to center field gave South Adams some cushion.
Alaina Johnston, Keirstyn Grimm and Morgan each had doubles for the Stars. Grimm added a single and Loren Smith had two base hits as well.
Alberson earned her ninth win of the season pitching, scattering eight hits over seven innings of work. She gave up two runs — one earned — while striking out six and walking two.

Red Devils blank JC
RICHMOND — The Jay County softball team committed six errors Friday in a 10-0 loss in five innings to the Richmond Red Devils.
Richmond scored two runs in the first inning before adding a run in each of the third and fourth frames. In the fifth, the Red Devils scored six runs, and kept the Patriot offense silent in the final frame.

Jay County (13-13) managed only two hits, one each from Gabby Hart and Chloe Trissel.
Catherine Dunn took the loss, giving up all 10 runs, only three of which were earned.

Optimist wins
Adriene Denney tallied five hits Friday as Portland Optimist defeated Homestead Bedding 13-7 in Portland Junior League Rookie softball action.
Tessa Miller added to Denney’s effort with four hits, with Rose Carter and Jacquelin Rivers also adding four hits and scoring four times.

Manor leads PG-14
Tyler Manor hit a home run, added two singles and drove in five runs, helping PG-14 to a 17-4 victory over MainSource Bank in PJL’s Willie Mays division.
Ryne Goldsworthy also had two hits and an RBI.
Isaac Braun led MainSource with two hits.
