Student realizes college dream

A Portland student was recently recognized for being the first in her family to attend college.
Shawna R. Miller is a sophomore at Huntington College.
She was selected by Huntington teacher Ms. Martha J. Smith to attend the 26th annual Independent Colleges of Indiana “Realizing the Dream” banquet for outstanding achievement in  her freshman year of college.
The event recognizes first-generation students attending ICI campuses.
Miller received $2,500 to help with college expenses and Smith received a $1,000 professional development grant.

Live game
Fort Recovey Public Library will go live on Tuesday.
A live game of Clue will be played  from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday for students in grades four through seven.
Participants will use detective skills to find clues to help solve a mystery.

Holiday concert
Arts Place in Portland will hold its annual MusicWorks Holiday Concert in Hall-Moser Theatre on Dec. 9.
Doors will open at 6:45 p.m. and the concert will begin at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served following the concert.
