Starfires dominate Giants

MARION — The Starfires dominated their opponent by more than 100 points for the second consecutive meet.
South Adams High School’s girls swim team won every event Tuesday in a 137-36 victory against the Marion Giants.
Ashton Klopp, Brette Klopp and Ashley LeFever were all double winners for the Starfires (2-0), and the trio had a hand in the winning relay teams too.
Ashton Klopp took first in both the 200-yard freestyle (2 minutes, 4.03 seconds) and 100 butterfly (1:02.36). Brette Klopp won the 200 individual medley (2:24.75) and 100 backstroke (1:04.81).
LeFever earned victories in both sprints, finishing the 50 freestyle in 24.28 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 1:01.25.
Olivia Von Gunten (500 freestyle – 6:15.69), Audrey Burson (1:1.25) and Korinna Schindler (diving – 177.45 points) also earned individual wins.
LeFever, Von Gunten and Ashton Klopp joined Brett Klopp to win the 400 freestyle in 4:11.24, and teamed with Caroline Kloepper to finish the 200 freestyle relay in 1:50.65.
Riley Thompson, Brett Klopp, Burson and Kloepper won the 200 medley relay in 2:08.67.
SA tops Leo
BERNE — South Adams held off a late surge by Leo, hanging on for a 52-50 victory against its former Allen County Athletic Conference opponent.
An 18-point second quarter gave South Adams (5-0) a 30-21 lead at halftime. The Starfires pushed their lead to 10 points heading into the final frame, during which Leo exploded for 18 points but fell short.
Cindy In’t Groen led all players with 20 points, including a perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. Lexi Dellinger, who was a stellar 10-of-12 from the charity stripe, followed with 16 points. Madi Wurster and Skyler Zuber each had six points.
Daisha Green had 16 points to lead Leo.
