Wal-Mart theft
A woman allegedly stole merchandise at 8:53 p.m. Friday from Wal-Mart, 950 W. Votaw St., Portland.
A Wal-Mart employee told Portland Police Department a woman had two cases of Red Bull and was preparing to leave the store. She was stopped by a Portland police officer.
Burglary
A Portland woman told Portland Police Department at 11:47 p.m. Saturday the home she is staying in was robbed.
Amanda Miller said items were taken from her boyfriend Michael Smith’s home at 827 S. Meridian St., Portland. The merchandise included an XBOX, a Sony Playstation 3, a 32-inch Visio Television and a Hewlett-Packard laptop.
The items are estimated to be worth $619.
Wal-mart theft
A man allegedly stole items at 5:52 p.m. Sunday from Wal-mart, 950 W. Votaw St., Portland.
Rickey D. Jenkins was arrested for allegedly stealing food, kerosene and household items from Wal-Mart. The merchandise is estimated to be worth $76.51.
He was transported to Jay County Jail at 6:26 p.m.
Backing crash
A Fort Recovery teen was involved in an accident at 9:15 p.m. Saturday at 3602 S. State Line Road in Madison Township.
Andrew J. Heitkamp, 16, 4204 St. Peter Road, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was backing the 1997 Chevrolet Silverado he was driving out of a driveway. He said he did not see a parked 2010 Dodge Avenger before the Silverado collided with it.
The Silverado is registered to Christa Heitkamp, same address as driver. The Avenger is registered to Vaneda M. Hamberg, 915 Southwood Drive, Coldwater, Ohio.
Damage is estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.
Off road crash
A Fort Recovery man’s car went off the road at 8:05 p.m. Sunday on county road 400 South in Pike Township.
Aaron N. Metzger, 28, 210 W. Caldwell St., told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was traveling west on county road 400 South near county road 400 East when a deer crossed the road. He said he swerved in his 2001 Chevrolet Lumina to avoid the deer and instead struck two large boulders.
Damage is estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
Deer collision
A Pennville man’s car struck a deer Thursday on Indiana 1 in Penn Township.
William K. Harris, 80, 5603 N. 1025 West, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was traveling north on Indiana 1 near county road 350 North when a deer entered the roadway. He said he was unable to avoid striking the deer with his 2006 Buick CXL.
Damage in the 5:45 p.m. crash is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Right angle crash
Two Portland drivers were involved in a crash at 4:18 p.m. Sunday on country road 200 South in Wayne Township.
Katherine R. Osterholt, 25, 7526 E. 550 South, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office she was traveling east on county road 200 South in a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox and stopped at the stop sign at Boundary Pike intersection. She said she looked both ways and did not see any oncoming traffic before proceeding into the intersection, where the Equinox collided with a 1998 Chevrolet Silverado.
Julie A Loyd, 52, 820 S. Bridge St., said she was traveling north on Boundary Pike in her Silverado. She saw the Equinox at the stop sign and despite slamming on the brakes her vehicle could not avoid the collision.
Both vehicles ended up at the northeast corner of the intersection.
The Equinox is registered to Adam M. Osterholt, same address as driver.
Damage is estimated between $10,000 and $25,000.
