Last week at Woodlan: After its opening drive fell short of the end zone, Jay County wasn’t able to get in position to score for the remainder of the game. But that’s when the Patriot defense stepped up, holding the Class 2A No. 4 Warriors to just 21 points in a 21-0 loss. Levi Hummel led the Patriots with 71 rushing yards ahd Holton Hill threw for 108 yards.
Season leaders: Passing — Hill – 38-of-86 passing for 592 yards, six touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Rushing — Cole Stigleman – 67 carries for 393 yards and four touchdowns. Receiving — Aaron Neal – 12 receptions for 233 yards and one touchdown. Defense — Caleb Kunkle – 55 total tackles, six tackles for loss, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

South Adams Starfires

Last week at Adams Central: South Adams surrendered more than 400 yards to Class A No. 8 Adams Central in a 40-3 loss to the Jets. Hunter Bates rushed for 226 yards, helping the Jets score three touchdowns in less than three minutes during the second quarter.
Season leaders: Passing — Joe Stuber – 3-of-6 passing for 66 yards and one touchdown. Josh Lahr – 8-of-34 passing for 6 yards and seven interceptions. Rushing — Stuber – 52 carries for 240 yards and one touchdown. Receiving — Drake Deitsch – one catch for 49 yards. Defense — Drew LeFever – 43 tackles, eight tackles for loss, 1 1/2 sacks, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Last season: South Adams capitalized on three Jay County turnovers for a 41-12 victory in Portland, spoiling the Patriots’ homecoming. Cole Stigleman scored twice for Jay County, racking up 194 yards on 18 carries. Starfire senior Derek Wanner ran for a score, threw for another, and Skylar Schoch also had two rushing touchdowns.
Game notes: This is the seventh meeting betweein Jay County and South Adams, with the Patriots holding a 4-2 edge in the series. The first five games all came before 1985 ... South Adams is averaging less than eight points per game, and has been shut out twice this season.?The Starfires have only scored seven touchdowns ... Jay County averages slightly more than 19 points per game, and both teams allow 30 points or more ... At 1-5, South Adams will have a losing record during the regular season for the fourth consecutive year.
