East Jay Middle School’s volleyball teams hosted the Monroe Central Golden Bears in a tripleheader Monday.
The Chiefs came away with one victory.
East Jay’s seventh grade squad won both sets 25-8, and the eighth graders lost 25-23, 25-19. The sixth grade team bounced back from an opening set loss 25-24 to win the second 25-22, but dropped the decisive third set 15-10.
Natalie Miles and Alana Kunkler led the seventh graders in the victory with five kills apiece. Miles also had team highs in aces (four) and digs (three). Kunkler tallied two assists.
Zoey Elzey added two kills and three aces, and Pacie Denney recorded a team-high five assists to go with her one ace. Ashlyn Dow contributed to the winning effort with two aces, one kill and one dig. Grace Saxman also had one dig.
For the EJMS eighth graders, Elyse Bost led the way with eight points, three assists and six digs. Macey Weitzel had three kills and the lone block. Logan Poore tallied three points and two kills, with Emma James, Britney Mullins and Sara Hemmelgarn adding two points apiece. James also notched three digs and two assists, and Mullins had five digs.
Lindy Mercer, Emily Chenoweth, Kyanne Anderson and Ralyn Chaffins all had two kills for the sixth grade squad. Hedges totaled 10 service points, six of which were aces. She also tallied two assists.
Anderson had five aces on her way to eight points, and Dirksen recorded four points and three aces. Chaffins also totaled four points, with Jayden Claytor and Kylie Klopfenstein adding one apiece.
