LeMaster's four TDs lead East Jay to win
MaCuly LeMaster scored four touchdowns.
Logan Duran added another, but it was his play on defense that had the biggest impact.
Duran picked off a pass at the end of the game to seal a 31-26, comeback victory for the East Jay Middle School eighth grade football team against Woodlan on Tuesday.
The seventh grade Chiefs also won, 21-0.
Woodlan had a 26-18 lead heading into the fourth quarter, until LeMaster scored twice, once from 80 yards and the other from 20 yards away. Gabe Link, who threw a 45-yard touchdown pass to Duran in the first quarter, found Brian Newman for a conversion.
LeMaster also found the end zone on a 75-yard run on the first play of the game, and reached the end zone from the 2-yard line in the second quarter.
Bailey Cox scored twice, and Sheldon Eley added another TD for the EJMS seventh graders. Cox had 55 yards on seven carries, and Eley caught four passes, two each from Landon Grimes and Griffin Mann, for 105 yards.
Tribe tops Tigers
FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery Middle School’s seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams picked up conference wins against the Versailles Tigers on Tuesday.
The eighth grade Indians won 25-24, 25-13, and the seventh graders had a 25-5, 25-23 victory.
Fort Recovery’s eighth graders move to 12-2 (6-1 Midwest Athletic Conference), while the seventh graders are now 11-2 (6-1 MAC).
Paige Jutte and Rachel Acheson led the eighth graders with five kills apiece. Chloe Showalter added four to go with her team-high 10 assists. Olivia Patch tallied three kills, with Val Muhlenkamp and Claudia Jones each adding two. Jones added had a team-high six digs. Brooke Kahlig, Meghan Jutte and Acheson had four digs each.
Paige Fortkamp paced the Tribe seventh graders with five kills. Elena Evers added four, Hope Wendel tallied three and Maria Hartings had two.
Ava Bubp recorded a team-high five kills, while Hope Wendel added three. Ashlyn Bechtol and Bubp both had three digs apiece.
Eagles 8th wins
HARTFORD CITY — West Jay’s eighth grade volleyball team defeated the Blackford Bruins easily on Tuesday, 25-13, 25-14.
After a first-set loss, the WJMS seventh graders rallied to win the second, but lost the match to the Bruins 25-23, 21-25, 15-8.
Hallie Fields led the eighth graders, posting team highs in service points (13), aces (seven) and kills (five). Calli Stigleman recorded three kills and four aces on her way to nine points. Trinity Current added five points and three aces. Destiny Crouse and Paige Howell had two points apiece, and Allison Jobe tallied eight assists.
Jayden Price paced the seventh graders with 15 kills and six aces. Abbi Kuss and Grace Morgan both had four points, with Chloe Campbell and Demi Grove adding three apiece.
Stars rout Eagles
DUNKIRK — South Adams’ seventh and eighth grade football teams both picked up lopsided wins against West Jay on Tuesday.
The SAMS eighth graders routed the Eagles 54-0, and the seventh graders won 34-6.
Nic Stuber and Collin Shaffer did all the scoring for the eighth grade Starfires. Stuber rushed for 199 yards and four touchdowns on eight carries. Shaffer added four carries for 85 yards and two touchdowns, and also had an 85-yard kickoff return.
James Arnold scored three total touchdowns and ran for another to lead the seventh grade Starfires. He threw a 32-yard pass to Tim Davidson in the first quarter, scored on a 1-yard run in the fourth and also returned an interception 42 yards for a touchdown.
Nick Miller and Alex Gorney added scores of 1 and 23 yards respectively.
West Jay stats were not provided.
