Saturday blood drive will honor Aker memory
Taking Note
The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive in memory of former fire chief Matt Aker who was killed in a traffic accident in April of 2011.
The Portland Fire Department encourages the community to donate blood in Aker’s honor from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at the fire department, 1616 N. Franklin St.
“Along with members of the general public, it would truly honor Matt to have all emergency personnel, including city and county police departments, come donate blood,” said Brooke Aker, Chief Aker’s widow. “I’d also like to see members of Matt’s graduating high school class of ’95 come out and participate.”
To make an appointment, dowload the American Red Cross blood donor app, visit redcrossblood.org or call (800) 733-2767. A blood donor card, driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required.
