Bishop Luers tops Starfires

FORT WAYNE — The South Adams High School volleyball team fell to 17-11 on the season Monday with a three-set loss to Bishop Luers.
The Starfires dropped the first set 25-13 and battled in the second, but eventually fell 26-24. The Knights took the third and final set 25-21 to complete the sweep.
Morgan Alberson led the Starfires with seven kills and 10 digs. Addie Wanner and Cindy In’t Groen each had five kills. Wanner added two blocks, and In’t Groen tallied four digs and one block as well.
Kylie Grabau notched three kills to go with her two blocks, and Kylea Pierce totaled nine digs.
South Adams’ junior varsity team rallied from a loss in the second set to edge the Knights 25-14, 21-25, 15-14.
Jade Farlow had nine kills to lead the Stars, who also got four kills from Bella Ramirez and three from Sydney Piece.
Streak snapped
ANSONIA, Ohio — The Indians are back in the win column.
Fort Recovery’s volleyball team snapped a five-match losing streak Monday with a clean sweep of the Ansonia Tigers.
The Tribe (9-11) beat the Tigers 25-10, 25-16, 25-13.
Kendra Siefring paced the Indians with a dozen kills to go with her two blocks. Carley Stone and Kirsten Jutte both had four kills, with Stone adding eight digs and two aces. Jutte also contributed seven assists.
Madison Rammel and Faith Kahlig totaled eight assists apiece, and Hannah Knapke had three aces and six digs.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity squad also swept the Tigers 25-15, 25-12.
Carly Link led the Tribe with four kills. Brooke Gaerke tallied three kills and Grace Thien had two.
Jay JV routs
Jay County’s junior varsity football team beat Woodlan 14-6 on Sept. 28.
The Patriots and Warriors played again Monday night, but this time Jay County was more dominating.
Five players scored touchdowns for the Patriots in a 38-6 rout of Woodlan.
Parker Grimes, Caden Stant, Mitchell Frasher, Collin Haines and Brandt Pearson all found the end zone for the Patriots (5-2).
Gage Capper paced the JCHS defense with two interceptions. Max Schmit, Cole Brotherton and Ben Antrim had seven tackles apiece.
Freshman fall
KOKOMO — Jay County scored in the third quarter to tie the game heading into the final period.
The Tigers had the edge in the fourth quarter.
Jay County’s freshman football team fell to 4-4 on the season with a 14-12 loss Monday to the Northwestern Tigers.
Ryan Schlecthy had a rushing touchdown for the Patriots. He carried the ball six times for 35 yards.
Gabe Faulker, who was 9-of-16 passing for 116 yards and two interceptions, connected with Wyatt Geesaman for the other Jay County touchdown. Geesaman caught six of Faulkner’s passes for 70 yards.
Tribe, ’Cats tie
MINSTER, Ohio — The Fort Recovery and Minster junior varsity football teams played to a 28-28 tie on Saturday.
Clayton Pearson scored four touchdowns to lead the Indians. He found Davis Will for TD passes three times, and ran in the other score.
Pearson also had a pair of 2-point conversions. He ran one in and threw the other to Ryan Braun.
Evan Post picked off a Minster pass to help lead the defense.
FR loses to Flyers
FORT RECOVERY — Just like he did two days prior with the JV squad, Clayton Pearson led the Tribe freshmen on Monday.
This time it was in a losing effort.
Pearson scored the lone touchdown for the Indians in a 19-8 loss to the Marion Local Flyers.
Derek Siefring caught a pass from Pearson for the score, and the quarterback found Jutte in the end zone for the 2-point conversion.
