SAHS spikers defeat Indians

BERNE — South Adams High School’s volleyball team was hardly challenged by the Indians.
The Starfires won in three sets Tuesday, picking up their 18th victory of the season with a dominating 25-10, 25-14, 24-14 victory against Union City on senior night.
Sophomore Madi Wurster had a team-high 11 kills for the Starfires (18-11), who finish their regular season slate Monday at Fort Wayne South Side. Kylie Grabau contributed seven kills, with Addie Wanner and Morgan Alberson adding five and four kills respectively. Alberson had a team-high six aces, and Wanner led the defense with a pair of blocks.
Julia Grabau totaled 23 assists to go with her four aces. Emma Rosswurm and Kylea Pierce had four digs apiece.
Jade Farlow led the South Adams junior varsity squad with 13 kills. Kylee Bixler and Shaelynn Bowman had two kills each.
Shania Neal totaled eight digs and five aces, and Bella Bailey notched 15 assists.

WOODBURN — South Adams Middle School’s seventh grade football team has been dominant all season.
It’s no surprise Tuesday was another blowout win.
Braden Bixler scored three times and Aaron Timmons found the end zone twice in the Starfires’ 60-0 dismantling of the host Woodlan Warriors.
South Adams’ eighth grade team lost its first game of the season, 20-18.
The seventh graders’ victory — a fifth shutout for the Stars — locked up a perfect 7-0 record and the Allen County Athletic Conference championship. South Adams outscored its opponents 314-12.
James Arnold threw a touchdown pass to Tim Davidson in the first quarter and returned an interception 54 yards for another score in the third. Nick Miller also had a rushing touchdown, and Christian Summersett returned a kickoff for another score.
For the SAMS eighth graders, Nic Stuber and Collin Shaffer accounted for all the scoring. Stuber ran for a 65-yard score in the first quarter and connected with Shaffer for a 10-yard TD pass in the second. Shaffer then reached the end zone from 9 yards out.

NEW KNOXVILLE, Ohio — Fort Recovery Middle School’s eighth grade volleyball team rallied after dropping the first set to beat the New Knoxville Rangers on Tuesday.
The Tribe won 18-25, 25-20, 25-19.
Brooke Kahlig paced the Tribe with eight kills. Olivia Patch totaled six, with Chloe Showalter and Val Muhlenkamp adding five and four respectively.
Harlie Dues paced the FRMS defense with 12 digs, and Kahlig chipped in with nine. Patch had five blocks.
Muhlenkamp added seven aces on her way to 19 points as she was 23-of-23 from the service line.
Rachel Acheson had 10 assists and Showalter totaled eight.
