Jay County to host Heritage

Last week at Indianapolis Marshall: Jay County scored 43 points in the third quarter in a 64-8 victory against the John Marshall Patriots. Cole Stigleman and Drew Huffman each had three rushing touchdowns, and Levi Hummel added two scores as JCHS?had 304 rushing yards. The visiting Patriots also forced four turnovers and held the home team to negative-1 rushing yard.
Season leaders: Passing — Holton Hill – 49 of 105 for 787 yards, seven touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Rushing — Cole Stigleman – 92 carries for 593 yards and nine touchdowns. Receiving — Aaron Neal – 14 catches for 277 yards and one touchdown. Defense — Caleb Kunkle – 70 tackles, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

Last week at Southern Wells: Southern Wells scored late but the Heritage defense hung on for a 21-18 ACAC road victory against the Raiders i Poneto. Monathan McNeal,?Evan Knapke and Michael Price all had rushing scores for Heritage, as it totaled 216 yards on the ground, despite allowing 325 rushing yards to the Raiders.
Season leaders: Passing — Walter Knapke – 23 of 51 for 211 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. Rushing — Justyn Hart – 136 carries for 847 yards and eight touchdowns. Receiving — Jeshua Foster – eight catches for 115 yards and two touchdowns. Defense — Zach White – four interceptions and three fumble recoveries.

Last season: Heritage scored 14 points in each of the final three quarters to beat Jay County 42-6 in a battle of the Patriots in Monroeville. Stigleman scored the lone touchdown for Jay County on a 5-yard pass from Joey Link. Stigleman finished with 127 yards on 16 carries. Justyn?Hart of Heritage led all players with 143 yards and scored two touchdowns.

Game notes: This is the sixth game all time between Heritage and Jay County, and Heritage holds a 4-1 advantage in the series. Jay County’s lone win was  a 32-27 victory in 2013 ... This is the regular season finale for both teams, Jay County opens Class 4A sectional play Oct. 23 at Mt. Vernon (Fortville), while Heritage will host Lakeland in the Class 3A tournament ... Jay County sophomore quarterback Holton Hill is 213 yards away from eclipsing 1,000 yards for the season ... With a victory, this will be the 21st time in 41 years that Jay County has finished the regular season with a winning record, and the first since 2013.
