Deer accident
A Portland woman was involved in an accident with a deer this morning on county road 500 North.
Sandra J. Towell, 58, 1912 W. 500 North, was traveling east about 7:35 a.m. on county road 500 North toward U.S. 27. A deer ran in the road and she slammed on her brakes, but was unable to avoid hitting the animal with her vehicle.
Damage to her 2007 Ford Edge was estimated at less than $1,000.
Pickups damaged
Two pickup truck drivers were involved in an accident Tuesday evening in Greene Township.
Victoria S. Dirksen, 36, 1205 N. 800 West, Portland, was driving south on county road 300 West/Indiana 26 before turning east to continue on Indiana 26.
Marc A. Coons, 34, 514 N. Market St., Hartford City, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he meant to turn north to continue on Indiana 26, but was blinded by the sun and went straight instead, striking the front of Dirksen’s 2004 Ford F250 with his 2002 Dodge Dakota.
The F250 is registered to Alan P. Dirksen, same address.
Damage in the 6:28 p.m. accident was estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.
Backing trouble
A rural Geneva woman backed her car into three parked vehicles Oct. 14 at Bluffton Regional Medical Center, 303 S. Main St.
Barbara A. Brown, 81, backed out of her parking space around 2:45 p.m. and struck a parked car with her Buick Le Sabre. She turned her car in a circle and then backed into a parked Chevrolet Malibu registered to Benjamin D. Dunsmore, Bluffton. Brown continued backing up and her Buick hit a Ford vehicle registered to Enterprise FM Trust, St. Louis, Missouri.
The first car was gone by the time police arrived.
Damage was estimated to exceed $10,000.
