EJMS football opens with wins

BLUFFTON — The East Jay Middle School football teams opened their seasons Tuesday with wins against the Bluffton Tigers.
The seventh graders shut out Bluffton 36-0 while the eighth graders won 38-13.
Gabe Link threw for one touchdown and ran for another to lead the seventh grade Chiefs. He scored on a QB sneak in the second quarter and hit Noah Arbuckle for a 20-yard touchdown pass in the third.
Maculy Lemaster had 105 rushing yards, including a 70-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Jackson Lyons also found the end zone on a 10-yard run. Link finished 4-of-7 passing for 93 yards.
The Chiefs’ defense only allowed two first downs.
Dallas Williams led the EJMS eighth graders, scoring four touchdowns on 135 yards rushing. R.J. Lennartz also had a big game on the ground, racking up 150 yards.
Bailey Cox added two touchdowns on the ground.
Lennartz and Cox each had six tackles to lead the defense, and Rylee Huftel recovered two fumbles.
Both teams are now 1-0 (1-0 Allen County Athletic Conference).

Titans sweep Eagles
DUNKIRK — The Muncie Northside Titans volleyball teams swept the West Jay Eagles on Tuesday.
The WJMS eighth graders lost 25-11, 25-24, and the sixth graders fell 25-21, 25-22.
Allie Fields had four kills and three service points for the eighth grade Eagles (0-1). Abby Fisher had four points and three aces, and Allison Jobe tallied three points, all of which were aces. She also recorded six assists.
For the West Jay sixth graders (0-1), Kayla Harrington had a team-high five points. Madison Hammers totaled three points.
Seventh grade results were not available.

Tribe wins
DELPHOS, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams both defeated the Delphos St. John’s Blue Jays on Tuesday.
The eighth grade Indians won 25-10, 25-11, while the Tribe seventh graders beat the Blue Jays 25-16, 25-20.
Olivia Patch led the FRMS eighth graders (1-0) with eight kills and two blocks. Val Muhlenkamp tallied three kills and also had two blocks.
Paige Jutte, Brooke Kahlig and Harlie Dues all recorded two kills, and Jutte totaled 10 assists. Rachel Acheson chipped in with eight assists.
For the FRMS seventh graders (1-0), Paige Fortkamp led the way with a team-high three kills and added one block. Hope Wendel notched two kills, three assists and three digs. Kierra Wendel added seven aces.

SA blanks Raiders
BERNE — South Adams nearly scored at will.
The Raiders weren’t able to find the end zone.
The South Adams seventh and eighth grade football teams shut out Southern Wells on Tuesday. The Starfire seventh graders won 36-0, and the eighth graders had a 24-0 victory.
Aaron Timmons led the SAMS seventh graders. He carried the ball twice and scored both times, once in the second quarter from 29 yards out, and again in the fourth from 24 yards away.
James Arnold, Aaron Timmons and Christian Summersett each had rushing touchdowns as well.
Nic Stuber led the eighth graders with 109 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries. He punched it in from the 2-yard line in the first quarter, and had a 41-yard scamper in the fourth. He also added a 25-yard touchdown catch from Collin Shaffer in the second quarter.
Grady Sprunger also had a rushing touchdown.
Both Starfire teams are 1-0 (1-0 ACAC).
