Schroer powers Indians

Rushing, defense dominate

FORT LORAMIE, Ohio —  A dominating ground game and a stifling defense combined Friday night as the Fort Recovery Indians rolled to a comfortable 34-6 victory over the host Fort Loramie Redskins.
Led by Kyle Schroer, who rushed for 104 yards on 16 carries and scored three touchdowns, the Indians racked up 201 net yards rushing and added another 136 yards passing for a total of 337 yards of offense.
Meanwhile the Fort Recovery defense limited the home team to just 101 yards.
Caleb Martin completed 7 of 13 passes for the Indians for 119 yards, and Schroer completed one of two attempts for 17 yards.
The Indians made four of 10 third down conversions, while holding the Redskins to just one of 11 attempts.
Fort Reovery jumped out in front early, with a Martin pass to Wes Wenning putting the Indians on the Fort Loramie 28. Schroer then carried after a handoff and was stopped out of bounds at the one. He then carried it in to score the first TD of the night with 2:48 on the clock. Darien Sheffer’s PAT kick was good to put Fort Recovery up 7-0 in the first quarter.
The Indians put together another drive that had them at the Fort Loramie 18 yard line when the first quarter ended. A Schroer pass to Marin then put them quickly at the Fort Loramie one-yard line. Schroer carried it in to score his second TD of the evening with 11:48 on the clock in the second. Sheffer’s PAT kick was again good to make it 14-0 in the Indians’ favor.

Then it was time for the defense — which had stymied Fort Loramie all night — to put some points on the scoreboard.
An Austin Siegel pass was intercepted by Brandon “Speedy” Schoen at the Fort Loramie 40 and taken for a touchdown. Sheffer’s kick brought the score to 21-0.
After shutting down the next attempt at a drive by the Redskins, Fort Recovery put together a drive of its own, this time led by Will Homan, who carried the ball on five consecutive plays to score a touchdown with 6:04 on the clock in the second quarter. Sheffer’s kick made it 28-0.
The Indians rounded out the half with one more Schroer touchdown, this one on three consecutive running plays.
Sheffer’s kick went astray, making it 34-0 Fort Recovery at the half.
Fort Loramie’s sole TD of the night came on a Wes Puthoff pass to Daniel Bernight with 1:06 on the clock in the fourth quarter.
The PAT kick by Tate Sholtis failed.
