Last week at Southern Wells: Jay County scored all 26 points in the second quarter and led the Class A No. 9 Raiders by 12 at halftime. But its offense turned the ball over three times in the second half and was held out of the end zone in a 40-26 loss. Sophomore Cole Stigleman had three touchdowns for the Patriots.
Season leaders: Passing — Holton Hill – 25-of-56 for 491 yards, five touchdowns and six interceptions. Rushing — Stigleman – 33 carries for 221 yards and two touchdowns. Receiving — Aaron Neal – six catches for 132 yards and one touchdown. Defense — Ethan Theurer – 23 tackles, two tackles for loss and one fumble recovery.

 

Adams Central Flying Jets
Monroe, 3-0 (0-0)
Coach: Michael Mosser, seventh year
Conference: Allen County
Last week vs. Indianapolis Broad Ripple: Adams Central thrashed the Broad Ripple Rockets to the tune of 63-19. It was the first time the Jets scored 60 or more points since beating South Central 63-0 in 2003. The Jets scored 21 points in each of the first two quarters. Bailey Hurst and Hunter Bates rushed for 128 and 122 yards respectively. They both had one rushing touchdown.
Season leaders: Passing — Andrew Hammond – 6-of-14 for 114 yards and three touchdowns. Rushing — Hunter Bates – 61 carries for 352 yards and four touchdowns. Receiving — Stephen Eicher – two catches for 47 yards. Defense — Hammond – 13.5 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss.

 

Last season: Despite losing its starting running back in the first quarter, Adams Central pounded the football to the tune of 488 rushing yards in a 48-12 thumping in the first meeting between the two schools. The Jets had a 28-0 lead before Jay County broke the shutout with a run by quarterback Joey Link. Drew Huffman had 102 rushing yards and a touchdown for the Patriots.

Game notes: Adams Central is ranked 10th in Class A in the most recent poll by the Associated Press  ... This is the second of four home games for the Patriots, who hosts Bluffton Sept. 18 for homecoming ... Jay County has scored 26 points in a quarter twice this year, once in the opening frame against Blackford and again in the second against Southern Wells.
