Cassidy Rammel hasn’t missed a game for the Cougars.
She is making the most of her opportunities on the court.
Rammel, a 2015 Fort Recovery High School graduate, was second on the team with eight kills for the Saint Francis Cougars volleyball team in a five-set loss to Goshen, 22-25, 26-28, 25-22, 25-19, 15-9.
Rammel, a freshman outside hitter, had 14 total attacks for the Cougars, who fell to 3-7 (0-1 Crossroads League).
She has played in all 10 games for the Cougars and has totaled 61 kills. She posted a career-high 14 kills Aug. 29 against Evergreen (Washington), beating her previous high of 13 she set the day before against Montana Western.
Eric Hemmelgarn
Jay County – 2014
Made his collegiate debut Saturday for the University of Saint Francis football team.
The redshirt freshman defensive lineman had six tackles, two solo, and a pair of stops in the backfield in the Cougars’ 59-16 victory against Olivet Nazarene. Hemmelgarn also recovered a blocked extra point attempt in the first quarter.
During the second quarter, Hemmelgarn brought down Matthew Wray in the backfield to force a punt by Olivet Nazarene.
Later in the fourth quarter, he assisted on two tackles and had one solo stop on the Tigers’ final scoring drive.
Kelsey Fiely
Fort Recovery – 2012
Ranks second for the University of Northwestern Ohio volleyball team in aces and third in digs.
Fiely turned in her best defensive match of the season Aug. 28 when she led the Racers (4-10) with 13 digs in an 18-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-18 win over Indiana University East. She also had one assist.
The junior recorded 12 digs a day later in a four-set loss to Asbury. She had seven digs and three aces in a Sept. 2 loss to Madonna and finished with seven digs and two aces Aug. 22 in a loss to Evangel.
She has six aces and 73 digs in 13 matches this year.
Randa Gillespie
Jay County – 2012
Recorded double-digit digs Friday in the Manchester University volleyball team’s 25-22, 22-25, 25-22, 25-21 loss to Olivet.
Gillespie finished second on the team with a career-high 11 digs for the Spartans (2-3). She also had two aces, two assists and her first career kill.
The senior matched her career-high digs total in the next outing, picking up another 11 digs along with two aces in a three-set loss Friday to Albion. She added three digs Saturday as Manchester rallied to beat Kalamazoo 21-25, 23-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-13.
Alyssa Bluhm
South Adams – 2014
Had five kills and assisted on a block for the Taylor University volleyball team in a 3-1 victory Wednesday against Bethel College, 25-19, 24-26, 26-19, 25-15.
The Trojan sophomore had 13 total attacks with one error for a .308 kill percentage.
The former Starfire also notched seven kills in the Trojan’s season-opening tournament Aug. 28 and 29 in Orange City, Iowa.
Bluhm has totaled 17 kills in 18 sets for the Trojans (5-5, 2-0 Crossroads).
Elle Sutter
Fort Recovery – 2014
Set a new career-best time for the Ohio Northern University cross country team Friday at the Bluffton Invitational.
The sophomore finished 17th overall in 20 minutes, 53 seconds. She was 13th on her team as the Polar Bears won the invitational with 29 points.
Sutter’s previous best 5K time was 22:35 she set Sept. 13, 2014, at the Calvin (Michigan) Invitational.
Derek Wanner
South Adams – 2015
Had two solo tackles for the Taylor Trojan football team in a 56-10 season opening victory Saturday against Anderson University.
The freshman defensive back had his first stop in the fourth quarter, tackling Anderson running back Josh Adkins at the line of scrimmage on third-and-6 to force a punt.
His second stop came on the second play of Anderson’s next drive, as he tackled Adkins out of bounds after a nine yard gain.
Julie Valentine
Jay County – 2013
Was the No. 4 runner for the Stephens College women’s cross country team in its season opener.
Valentine finished 90th overall for the Stars, who were last out of 11 teams Saturday at the Gabby Reuveni Early Bird Meet hosted by St. Louis University.
She posted a time of 20 minutes, 57 seconds, in the 4K race.
