NOBLESVILLE — The Patriots cruised through pool play Saturday, but ran into the second-best Class 4A team in the semifinals.
Jay County High School’s volleyball team placed third at the Noblesville Invitational.
The Patriots (13-2) knocked off the Frankfort Hot Dogs (25-13, 25-20) and Plainfield Quakers (25-12, 25-23) in pool play of the 12-team tournament.
Jay County then lost to Class 4A No. 2 Brownsburg Bulldogs 25-21, 25-17 in the semifinals, and beat the Western Boone Stars in the third-place match, 25-27, 25-15, 15-11.
Abby Barcus led the Patriots — whose only two losses have come to Brownsburg and Class 3A No. 6 Delta — with 34 kills, including a 17-kill effort against Western Boone. She also added 22 digs and had 2 1/2 blocks.
Kylie Osborne had 24 kills and 20 digs, and Ava Kunkler tallied 21 kills and 15 digs. Abby Wendel was the only other Patriot to reach double-digit kills with 18, and she recorded a team-high 28 digs. Lizzy Schoenlein tallied 89 assists.

SA spikers are champs
WABASH — The South Adams volleyball team claimed its first tournament title Saturday.
The Starfires swept all three opponents to win the Apache Invitational at Wabash High School.
South Adams (13-2) defeated the host Apaches (25-10, 25-21) and the Southern Wells Raider s (25-12, 25-9), before knocking off the Bluffton Tigers (25-12, 25-22) in the tournament championship.
Kylie Grabau had 14 kills to lead the Starfires. She also had six blocks and three assists.
Morgan Alberson, Addie Wanner and Madelyn Wurster all had a dozen kills, with Alberson also contributing three blocks and four aces.
Cindy In’t Groen recorded 10 kills to go with her seven aces, and Julia Grabau tallied 46 assists.

Fort JV wins
ANNA, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s junior varsity football team is still perfect.
The Indians moved to 3-0 on the season Saturday with a 16-12 victory against the Anna Rockets.
Davis Will returned an interception 45 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter to put the Tribe on the board. Clayton Pearson found Ryan Braun for the 2-point conversion.
Pearson then ran one in for a score from five yards out in the third quarter. He also ran in the conversion for a 16-0 FRHS lead.
The Rockets rallied to score twice in the final quarter, but the Indians held on for the win.

Tribe 2-1 in tourney
NEW BREMEN, Ohio — The Fort Recovery JV volleyball team rallied from a first-round loss to win its final two matches Saturday at the New Bremen Invitational.
The Indians lost to Midwest Athletic Conference foe Versailles 21-25, 25-9, 25-21, then beat St. Marys (25-10, 25-18) and Russia (25-8, 25-18).
Hannah Knapke led the Indians with 18 kills and 26 digs. Sydney Dues tallied 16 kills, and Brooke Gaerke had seven. Dues also had 19 digs.
Madi Rammel recorded 42 assists, 18 digs and 10 aces, with Kiah Wendel and Jill Roessner each adding 14 digs.

FR wins
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery Middle School seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams both swept Ansonia on Saturday.
The seventh graders won 25-4, 25-12, and the eighth graders dominated in a 25-3, 25-7 victory.
Rachel Acheson, Olivia Patch and Paige Jutte each had two kills for the Tribe eighth graders. Chloe Showalter tallied 14 points and Val Muhlenkamp had 13.
Acheson also had four assists, and Showalter tallied three.
Maria Hartings led the FRMS seventh graders with three kills. Kendra Dues added two kills.
Hope Wendel had a team-high five assists. Kierra Wendel recorded 20 points and Ava Bubp had nine.
