Jay's Wellman finishes second at Blackford

HARTFORD CITY — Megan Wellman has consistently been near the top of the cross country standings.
Saturday, the JCHS senior earned her best finish of the year with her fastest time of the season.
Wellman crossed the finish line in 19 minutes, 56 seconds, to place second at the Blackford Invitational.
The Patriots did not qualify for a team score.
Jay County’s boys placed 15th out of 25 teams. Oak Hill and Eastbrook both scored 92 points, but Oak Hill won the team title on a sixth-runner tiebreaker. New Castle was third with 117 points. Jay County scored 388.
Behind Wellman, classmate Kellie Fortkamp also turned in a season-best time of 21:24. She placed 22nd. Erika Kunkler (23:32) was 57th and Destiny Berry (27:03) was 114th with her best time of the year.
Michael Denney and Alex LeMaster were 64th and 65th respectively, and both had a time of 19:16. Travis Barton placed 73 in 19:23, and Tayler Smeltzer was 88th in 19:57. Matthew Cox finised 99th in 20:16 to complete the Patriots’ team score.
Dallas Dudelston (102nd – 20:25) and Sayger Holcomb (120th – 21:27) also competed.

McIntire sets record
SPENCERVILLE — Bailey McIntire didn’t just set a new meet record Saturday.
He destroyed the previous one that stood for nearly three decades.
McIntire, a South Adams junior, cruised to the championship of the Spencerville Bearcat Invitational Saturday with a time of 15 minutes, 51 seconds. His time was 15 seconds faster than Covington’s Ryan Stover, who set the record in 1986.
South Adams’ boys and girls teams placed second. New Haven claimed the team titles in both races, scoring 33 points to win the boys’ race and 51 to win the girls side. The Starfire boys scored 72 points, while the girls totaled 62.
SAHS sophomore Wyatt Miller (17:12.9) finished fourth to five South Adams two runners in the top 10. Daniel Steffen (17:57.9) was 11th, Briar Goodwin (18:41.3) placed 19th and Kamden Yoder (19:25.7) was 39th.
Olivia Von Gunten led the SAHS girls, finishing fourth with a time of 19:52.9. Kara Seffernick (20:44.9) was 11th, Acacia Anderson (21:38) placed 14th, Eliza Harruff (22:00.6) finished 16th and Hadi Hawbaker (22:02.5) was 17th.
